The highway speed cuts into the range but we normally stop for coffee or lunch half way, so top up at that point. I laughed when I read this. When I was a teenager sleeping in a dinga on the farm I woke to feel a snakes coils readjusting themselves on my legs. I threw the covers off and turned the light on to see 2m of carpet snake across the floor. I bolted out the door to the house where Dad was up making tea.
