Bright ink colors may not be my primary wheelhouse, but despite being pleasantly surprised by the character in the 18ml TWSBI inks when I first swatched them I've rarely reached for them since and these inks deserve better! The frosted glass bottles are good too. I used 8 TWSBI inks to paint in the Dominant Industry Ink Archiving book yesterday.

All my ink palettes still had leftover dried out #FountainPenInk and there are several interesting Yamamoto fountain pen papers I've only spent a little bit of time with so far, so I got out a pile of waterbrushes and pencils and pens and ponies and went to town on stream today.

...I've now added a few things to the list for the next time I stop in at TGS, and am off to wash these mostly empty palettes.

A surprise find at my local pen shop, some inks from the Taccia Jeans line. Powder Blue is a light blue that leans a little purple (periwinkle perhaps?). The Black ink actually looks like faded black jeans in the ink wash (where I diluted with water), and has a lot of goldish sheen at full saturation. The standout to me in this group is the Aqua Blue, another light ink but a really gorgeous shade of blue gray. That's the one now in queue to get inked up soon.

Despite everything going on in this country, I'm enjoying the Colorverse state inks. I've got two new ones recommended by a friend, Tar Heel is a soft gray blue and The America's Dairy Land ink is a unique, vibrant cheesey orange. I also just added a swampy sketch to the Atchafalaya card.

These are fun to sketch because there's good box art to reference, and there's been some interesting chromashading, especially with Gold Rush, Chesapeake Bay, Atchafalaya, and Great Plains.

I think the Dominant Industry Ink Archiving books are a great value, but any fountain pen friendly or watercolor paper is a great start, including any abandoned notebooks or planners. Also, when cleaning pens, dump any leftover ink into a palette—just add water if it dries out and start painting!

For today's painting in the Dominant Industry Ink Archiving book I used the Amarillo Stationery Pennonia inks Azul Frida, Rosa Mexicano, and Amarillo Antiguo for playful sea creatures exploring an abandoned laboratory.

I really like how today's Dominant Industry Ink Archiving book page turned out! Last week I did bright jellyfish by mixing the Birmingham Pen Co "cyan" (Ice Age), "magenta" (Amaryllis), and "yellow" (Naples) inks, then today I reused the dried out ink in the palette and added in the "black" (Chimney Soot) for more natural earth tones for some manatees and friends. #FountainPenInk

Today I spent more time exploring an idea for using the dregs of old ink samples, unlabeled mystery samples, ink you are ready to dump out of a pen to clean, ink from large bottles that you'd never use up, etc. to create colorful washes of ink on plain paper, then cutting them up to make a collage piece. If you've got nice paper in an abandoned notebook to use up too, all the better! #FountainPenInk
