As Cory Doctorow (npub1fdr…lvhs) has noted, giving people more rights under copyright is like giving your child more lunch money. The bullies will just relieve them of it at the school gate.

Feeling pooped. Moved two boulders from the area where I am chopping out an ugly tree to make room for a bougainvillea. I had already removed the tree branches. Using my long-armed-limb-lopper, today I sawed about 1/3 through the trunk before I had to call it quits.

Maybe I'll finish tomorrow, could take a couple of days. There's no rush. It's been over a decade since I was Mighty. I have to work within my body's sadly shrunken limits. I'll get there.

1. The Damsel is still tiny, and the Dame Elisabeth Murdoch variety is not noted for sturdy roots, but she is enjoying her new home in a 50 cm pot. I'm hoping she will flourish.

2. Nobody wanted Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, but they too are doing well.

3. A cluster of Chinesis and Bougainvillea cuttings. Their future is unwritten.

4. Our #cat, Penny, investigates the vegetable bins.

I'm giving this a little side-eye after reading the guy's follow-up 30th Dec Substack post. However, Luigi has not yet been found guilty - although a guilty verdict seems a forgone conclusion given the chill that his alleged act has put up the spines of our billionaire overlords - and is innocent until such a decision, so erasing him does seem rather premature.

At least one of our four #ginger pots made it through the winter and has put up a new stalk, yay! 🌱

Two minutes after discovering this, I came outside again and found the #cat 😾 *sitting* in that pot. She hadn't shown the least interest in the ginger pots till I fussed over that one. No doubt she was curious.

I picked her up and dumped her, but it was too late. The stalk was snapped in two. 😭

All four pots are now spiked to make them less desirable as cat beds.

First #rose of the season!

The Dame has a bloom, her first since mid-June. It is growing on the same branch (albeit I lopped back its over-exuberant length after the previous flower finished) as the June bloom.

There is another flower bud around the side is ready to open. There are also signs of several new buds developing, though as yet I can't be sure which are buds and which are just new leaf growth.

Nicholas Reece wants to sell 51% of the Regent Theatre to parties as-yet unidentified, for a probable $20 mil (~half of its estimated $40 mil value).

Here's a suggestion. Sell the 51% stake, but sell exactly 2% of it to the State Gov't, raising their stake from 49% to 51%.

In other words, sell the controlling stake to the other major stakeholder, not to some yet-to-identify-themself-but-probably-already-extremely-wealthy commercial interest.
