it does depend on what you mean by "read" and "a book". For example, with non-fiction I get a book and work through examples, apply it to a set of problems and learn that way and skim through to the bits that look interesting.
I also sit down and read books but due to the vagueries of memory I think this is at the 10-15 a year level. What I also do more is listen to a lot of books being read through library subscriptions or the radio.

I was talking to my son about this he quoted Gramsci "The old world is dying, the new slow to be born. It is in this stark contrast that monsters are born."

If correct, the market based neo-liberal economic model is dead. The question is, is the Labour government approach of competent management of the decline enough, or is a much radical say interventionist, planned, even Keynesian approach needed?

This is arguably where the US was in the '30s and the UK in '45.
