(It&#39;s something that hasn&#39;t happened on the show yet - apparently Joffrey already spoiled it in season one or two of Game of Thrones, but I didn&#39;t remember it, it&#39;s just a throwaway line)<br/><br/>I liked the beginning of the book (Aegon the Conqueror, Maegor) and I loved the tale of Jaehaerys&#39;s reign. I really felt that the characters were as fleshed out as the format allows (not a narrative in the traditional sense of the term, but a &#34;history book&#34;) and his story was really compelling.<br/><br/>But then, I found the reign of Viserys&#39;s quite underwhelming and somewhat expedited. On the other hand, I loved the character of Viserys in House of the Dragon, he&#39;s probably one of my favorite Westerosi characters from the TV shows.<br/><br/>None of the other characters (appearing on the show) are really fleshed out in the book. (except maybe Corlys and Daemon, but barely)<br/><br/>I found the contrast with Jaehaerys&#39;s story quite jarring.<br/><br/>So am I biaised because I saw the show first and the characters are obviously more developed in the show? And in that case, maybe I should stop reading the book until the show ends and hope I don&#39;t get spoiled more in the meantime (that&#39;s four years)<br/><br/>Or did you also find a real dip in quality during Viserys&#39;s reign, but it gets better after?
