Every year Hartlepool Folk Festival puts on a concert based on something from the region - it might be legends, or something based in a local archive, but it will use a mix of local artists and music, plus people from outside the area. This year's was "Bold Miners: Spirit of '84", to mark 40 years since the Miners' Strike, which had a huge impact on the region. For the first time, they're making the concert available on Youtube, with a "premiere" from 8pm tonight.

Today I got offered a chance to go to Edinburgh for a work-related meeting. In some ways it would be fun to go, because Edinburgh, but then I thought about the realities of it. Ooof, I just bought and downloaded "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth from Kobo, as it was only 99p. Now, I know it's a big book (I still have the hardback copy that I schlepped back from Galway when I was a student there - thank goodness I went by ferry, not flying) but putting it on my e-reader and seeing the page count being in the same league as my monthly average page read count really emphasised that point. I might save it for when I have a chunk of time off work so I can really focus on it.

A couple of months ago I was looking to replace some plates, and I was looking at vintage / second hand as I didn't need a full set. I saw some that reminded of the type you used to get in village halls and schools.

The wedding reception is being held in a village hall, and the exact same plates are being used for the cakes.

I'm intrigued to know what was special about this rock.

For those that want to know such things, the pattern is Shetland Ruffles by Kieran Foley http://kieranfoley.com/knit_lab_shetland_ruffles.html, the bright yarn was a pack of mini skeins from Folkestone Harbour Yarns https://folkestoneharbouryarn.com/, and the blue comes from Peak District Yarns https://peakdistrictyarns.co.uk/

The finished scarf is about 6 feet long and 14 inches wide.
