Since #Mastodon does not (yet?) have an option to hide posts without #AltText on images, here's a uBlockOrigin / AdGuard custom filter to do so:

People here use the #bloomscrolling tag to celebrate nature, and nature is not always picture-perfect. It goes into cycles of growth, bloom, decay and recovery, and it's beautiful all year long to the observer who accepts this. It is still winter in the northen hemisphere, but photos of the firsts sprouts are beautiful in showing nature's resiliency and sturdiness, and many of us need this right now.

If that's not for you, feel free to shut up and leave, because we won't change for you.

While I'm really happy that #podcasting escaped the greedy claws of techbros, I wish it was easier to discover new podcasts. A third of my favorites stopped publishing new episodes, so I'll be on the lookout for new ones.

Looking for recommendations of conversional #podcasts from diverse folks (bonus points for neurodivergent and/or queer folks). Could be about anything interesting / fun as long as the main focus is not on US politics or glorifying the tech oligarchy. I'll post my favorites in replies. Boosts welcome!

I suggest ending your article on how communities can accommodate ND folks, some leads are:<li>clear community norms (community guidelines, CoC, visible moderation), because ND folks struggle with "guessing" social norms and love when things are un-ambiguous. This will get pushback from the vocal squad weaponising ND as a free pass, but the silent majority (and many NT folks too) benefit from it</li><li>making sure that one can meaningfully contribute to the governance / tech choices asynchronously, instead of requiring to be in sync convos that are more taxing</li><li>accommodating sensory needs during in-person events: quiet zones, lower lighting, activity options in smaller groups, flexible break times...</li><li>normalizing tone indicators in written convo, normalizing asking clarifying questions, defusing conflict early...</li>

Communities should indeed acknowledge, accommodate and protect neurodivergent members, like they protect other marginalized members. The topic of intersectional moderation is very difficult to navigate, especially when ill-intended folks try to build a "hierarchy" of who is more protected / maginalized. (c.f current fedidrama 🙈).

We should not tolerate racism from trans folks, we should not tolerate transphobia from BIPOC people, and we should not tolerate misogyny / racism from ND people.

The "ND folks' comfort vs women/queer folk's comfort" framing is false and dangerous, because this dichotomy does NOT exist: Autism prevalence is 6x higher in trans persons, and the prevalence of Autism in women is steadily rising now that the "only white cis men can be autistic" myth has been debunked. Many women have been misdiagnosed as BPD or other conditions, because Autism was not even considered.

neurodivergent & neurotypical (shortened to ND & NT) are indeed the preferred vocabulary today. Neurodivergent is an umbrella term inclusive of autism, ADHD, BPD, OCD and many dys* conditions. Neurodiverse & neurospicy are more contentious so, although people self-describing with them is valid, I prefer not to use these words to talk about other people.

For autism specifically, you can use autistic & allistic. Some ND folks resent the fact that the term "neurodivergent" is increasingly used as a euphemism for autistic exclusively, erasing the other forms.

Heya ActuallyAutistic group (npub10v4…s27h) folks, any recommendations on language learning methods for adults, ideally for Greek / Italian? The spaced repetition method that #duolingo and its competitors us not working for me, as I hate repetitive stuff.

As a non-binary person, repeating "un ragazzo italiao / una ragazza italiana" exercices for a week is not my cup of tea.
