I think it was the BBC&#39;s day 0 coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that included a reporter saying something like &#34;seeing this kind of violence here, in a civilised, modern western country is shocking, this isn&#39;t the Middle East.&#34; The celebration of Ukrainians making molotov cocktails contrasts laughably with the chorus of &#34;Israel has a right to defend itself&#34; that we&#39;ve had to listen to for so many months.<br/><br/>Everyone outside of our sphere of the world is othered to the extent that a large part of the population is willing, at least for a time, to see genocides as, perhaps unfortunate, but inevitable.
