News yesterday was they were refusing NHS care for a child born in the UK whose mother was from a British Territory and now has citizenship here.

I had a lot of fillings back them but it's likely I needed them. The black heavy 'gas mask' was so awful I clearly remember it decades later.

My concern now is that children with teeth in terrible condition aren't getting the care they need.

Sadly, on narrow island roads I don't think substantial bikes would stop vehicles passing too close. Oh goodness, it's very tricky to retro fit the UK with suitable facilities for cycles. We have nice bike paths near me but they don't go anywhere practical.
In Holland & Denmark I've seen very large, effective bike lanes but pedestrians have to take great care crossing them! In places (like Copenhagen) they did seem rather fast & furious.

In many cases only the NHS has any aftercare (I've seen a post-op private patient requiring A&E because the only private aftercare was one appointment a week later).
Private at a competitve cost encourages dependency & then the cost will rise or the service will be discontinued for something more profitable.
The Government know this as many of them are making £££ from private sector.

I just finished The old man and his sons by Heðin Brú. I'd started & rejected it a few years back & was just about to send it to Oxfam books when I changed my mind. I decided that as I've been to the Faroe Islands a couple of times I should make the effort & not be squimish about the whaling. I'm glad I read it & feel I have improved my understanding of island life 50 years ago. Great book.

Thank you for posting this. I'm old but not what I'd class as elderly as yet! I have balance issues from a chronic condition and I can't go out alone for a walk anymore. Well that's depressing twice over. There's certainly more evidence of AI on the web with poor writing everywhere. Why do we need it at all? The mistakes are ridiculous. Every now and again I email someone with a screenshot to show them what a hash AI made of their website.

Progress is being made on eco-electric heating but is anyone considering the whole picture. Glasgow can get very cold. Eco-friendly electric heating isn't enough on it's own. It won't succeed until there are no winter powercuts & electricity is affordable. Some progress is being made on the latter by heating methods that use less. However, what do people who only have eco-electric heating (without storage) do when storms or road works cut supplies.

Children living in outback Australia who can't attend a physical school still learn to communicate. In the UK , doesn't communication start at home before school age. What is happening in homes that results in children not understanding basics. TV, radio, phones and computers were were available to many. I assume under 5s weren't left alone all day.

There are going to be a lot of people with heart, lung, brain, immune problems etc in the future because they had covid in the past. Even mild covid can do damage. Vaccines are great but they aren't 100% and they wane over time. The vaccines protect from severe covid. Unfortuantely even mild covid can lead to problems. It's a nasty lottery.
