All blabbing about the Neo thing. It's cool, and Apple will blow the education market out of the water. I still find 600 bucks quite a hefty amount. And then: a 16Gb M2 MacBook Air is around that over here, new. I'll take that, thank you. And put Asahi on it.

Received some great feedback during my travails, so all's dandy now.
That leaves Gentoo dwm for tomorrow, and luckily enough that's a public holiday here. Was a bit surprised the latest GhostBSD wouldn't load, but neither does FreeBSD on that particular one. Raku, Bonito, you name it, not even past the boot screen. Great about the Slackware install dvd: it doesn't need a network connection to install at first. But it has the right driver anyway 😊 So after install there's always (for me anyway) a xfce session to start tweaking. Later in the process (i.c. after I installed cosmic) I remove that xfce session (and more things). Used that in my last 3 Slackware installs, it works very well.
N4t3R (npub180a…e3he)

As for the vibrancy: I tried a ton of iso's on the Thinkpad today. None were good. Then I re-grabbed the Slackware Current iso and slapped the great Cosmic spin by Nate ( N4t3R (npub180a…e3he) ) on top of it. Did you know those Cosmic packages were updated the same day System76 released them? Now that's cutting edge!
Furthermore: 3 Slackware and 1 FreeBSD install over here. Just saying.
#slackware #cosmic

Yesterday, when installing the Cosmic spin of about 2 months ago I was later on greeted with more than 300 updates. The Cosmic part of that was relatively small. Since I hadn't added any software yet, it only shows clearly that the fundamentals of the system are very well maintained. And very much up to date! Then again, updating Slackware and its core applications has never left me in a 'broken' state over the last couple of years. That's why I stick around, rock solid!

That was a pretty uneventful affair, which is good. The Cosmic liveslak I tried worked well, a much better experience than before. Furthermore very much up to date, the first patch to version 1 already included. Had only to install grub (included, but not activated) and uninstall some standard liveslak packages. But that goes with every Slackware install, so no biggie. Cosmic-greeter behaves a bit quirky also, but that goes for all Cosmic installs. Next week: tweaking.
#slackware #cosmic

Gotta say that, having done this a gazillion times on Linux, system and application upgrades on FreeBSD are very smooth. Upgraded to Plasma 6.5.3 and RC 4 of FreeBSD 15 in one go. FreeBSD provides the standard KDE Plasma package, which is the preferred way as recommended by KDE themselves. Nevertheless, you can still uninstall i.e. Discover and Konqueror, which are part of that base package (like I do).
Don't be put off by the inclusion of kde-base-apps in your removal overview, only the relevant parts for that application will be removed. All other apps and libraries will stay put and continue to work.
#freebsd #kde

Okay, no fetches and no Mate here.

But just showing off that FreeBSD has that great Wayland stack, very much up to date, in the Ports collection.

River WM, Wayland, wezterm, FreeBSD 14.3.

#freebsd #riverwm
