Killing gate fees was the *one* social good that Uber managed to accomplish and keep around.

Daily fees like this shift the risk from the dispatching company onto the driver - if they don't get enough rides in a day, they won't break even and have essentially *paid* for the privilege of *working.*

(The two positives they gave up on earlier were: no tipping in the app, but then Lyft was able to claim lower prices by factoring the tip into the driver's income so Uber caved on that, and the *explicit* surge pricing telling you what multiple you will pay versus a vaguely calculated up-front fare. The explicit surge price let users understand what a normal fare would be and decide if they want to pay for the congestion price, which, by being transparent, also could not be split unfairly with the driver. This was also dropped to help normalize higher fares with customers and allow hidden fees to increase the cut wrt the driver...)

LOL
2. This feels like the EU is trying to avoid all of the legal drama that would come about from trying to force Musk-Twitter to follow their regulations. (With the Far Right in Europe gaining power recently, there may be worries about such enforcement backfiring, so letting the toxicity stay contained in one place may be the better option for now.)
