On the following X-ray you can see a female dog with a “hemipenis” with a fully formed os penis (penile bone). Fun fact, dogs have a bone inside their penis along with other canid species. This condition is called hermaphroditism, a genetic condition in which the gentian organs of both sexes are developed with one predominating (usually female). This doggie had a long history of urinary problems, and I was able to diagnose this with a simple vaginal inspection which revealed the hemipenis. She is scheduled to undergo a CT scan to look for abdominal testicles, and vaginoscopy to map out the internal anatomy, so we can decide whether an amputation of the male organ is possible.
