It had unknown history, so I took it apart to check it out. It was well used and very oily. Cleaned it up and tested it. Then I gave safety advice about chainsaw PPE and being really careful about using it.<br/><br/>My HP Pro8600 printer wasn&#39;t repaired. Then it was doing their admin, and driving for them after Dad gave up his driving licence.<br/><br/>The level of care rose over the years, and took a steep jump after we had Covid in the house.<br/><br/>My wife of 12 years, supports me in supporting my parents, the extra pair of hands, the driver when we can&#39;t park at the hospital, etc.<br/><br/>I did the dirty end of hands on care when Dad went downhill (due to a brain tumour we didn&#39;t know about) that put him in respite care while I rearranged their home to suit. They were not repairable.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, I repaired a little Xylophone. The elastic used to hold the tone bars had snapped so I renewed it.<br/><br/>I then helped a chap repair his toaster, he had the parts but not the tools.<br/><br/>I put a new aglet on the end of a shoelace, made from hot glue and heat shrink.<br/><br/>I got a mid century teak chair to repair as homework. All the joints were loose and badly reglued.<br/><br/>My novice had a halogen standard lamp with two built in dimmers. The circuits were fried so we worked out how to convert it to two on/off switches. I dismantled, opened the switch and separated the welded contacts. Oh well....<br/><br/>A tall lamp - Reassembled the metal column. Bulb might be blown*.<br/><br/>A clock - I showed the client how to install a new battery clock mechanism.<br/><br/>A table lamp - The lampholder had come apart. reassembled it and tested the bulb*.<br/><br/>*Both bulbs were halogen type. The first was a capsule type, the second was encased in a BC candle bulb. Both failed a continuity test. I assumed the first was a failed bulb. However, the second I put in the lamp holder and it worked.<br/>I have not come across a filament bulb that failed continuity, but still worked. High internal resistance maybe?
