I was about to tell a FAFO srory about a driver who chose to drive in this storm and got stuck in the middle of a residential intersection in front of my house.

But then I went out to help and it was a 20yo uber driver who likely has to be out in this to be able to pay rent, delivering groceries to someone, didn’t know how to drive in this but also couldn’t even speak English enough to tell the customer what was going on. This capitalism we have is top notch, just superb.

I drove his car out of the problem while two other neighbours pushed, and I spoke to the customer on the kid’s phone, and I hope he manages to get home. He’s not equipped for this.

Cllr Matlow asks about contradiction between province saying we can go ahead with signal priority, but staff suggesting agreement with Metrolinx required.

Staff expand on previous answer about how schedule change can impact maintenance which impacts cost for the maintenance provider, as an example. Need to ensure it still fits in the agreement.

Forcing people who might want to bike into shared (dangerous) roads, or into underfunded transit vehicles they can’t trust, or to buy a car and pay to park, is the opposite of fighting congestion.

Basic geometry is not optional. We can’t fit more cars, we just can’t. So downtown needs other options. Why does the province need to override democratically-elected councillors deciding on what makes sense in their city?

Backwards.

The Ford government doesn’t actually want to “solve” congestion:

🚘 Adding highway lanes, and paving over farmland (which fills up instantly as induced demand means more drivers show up)

🚘 Underfunding transit (so vehicles are full and unreliable)

🚘 Preventing cities from enforcing traffic laws with automated cameras and tickets

🚘 And now, preventing cities from adding bike lanes (which can carry more people than a car lane!)

My husband is becoming a teacher after 24 years as project manager. While studying he has no teaching license but can be an “emergency supply person” which is the last resort to ensure an adult is in each classroom. “Don’t let the kids die” as his goal. All licensed supply teacher options are supposed to be exhausted before he is called.

Today is the 9th day of school in Ontario and at 7:20am he was called to cover for a class today in Riverdale.
