The second issue of NowLink is out!

This week, things get a little terrifying: teaching Claude how to write to ServiceNow. 💥

Reading data is easy. Giving an LLM write access? That raises the stakes completely. One hallucination could corrupt production records, scramble priorities, or wreck assignment groups.

Here is how NowLink v0.2 handles LLM write safety locally using the Model Context Protocol (MCP):

1/ Two-Step Confirmation Engine
Every write tool defaults to confirm=False. Claude must calculate a local diff preview, show it to you, and wait for explicit permission before executing with confirm=True.

2/ Shifting Validation Left
Instead of waiting for a vague ServiceNow API error, a local safety.py module catches incomplete payloads before they hit the network. Claude then explains what's missing in plain English.

3/ The "No Delete" Rule
Hard record deletions are completely blocked. To protect database integrity and audit trails, Claude can only trigger state transitions (like changing an incident to Cancelled or Closed).

4/ Timeout Defense
PDIs love to drop connections. If a timeout hits, custom verification routines scan the last 2 minutes of the target table to ensure a write didn't secretly succeed, preventing duplicates.

Read the full technical deep-dive, see the Python code snippets, and catch a sneak peek of v0.3's bulk operations here: https://nowlink.beehiiv.com/p/nowlink-v02

Missed the first edition? Building a local-first MCP server to connect Claude Desktop to ServiceNow. 🛠️

Why? Because most current MCP solutions rely on external cloud proxies and third-party middlemen. That's a massive security risk for enterprise ecosystems. I wanted something 100% local that runs entirely on your machine.

It’s just a v0.1 concept right now, but the foundation is solid: initialization and read-only access are fully working.

Built with Python 🐍

Open-source on GitHub 🐙

2-line command setup 💻

Wrote a short deep dive into the code, OAuth setup, and token optimization:
https://nowlink.beehiiv.com/p/nowlink-v01

Any devs on here messing with ServiceNow or MCP? Let me know your thoughts. Is this the way, or am I heading down a rabbit hole?

#servicenow #python #mcpserver #buildinpublic #ai #nowlink #localfirst #opensource #github

      Hi Nostr! 🤙 #introduction

ServiceNow developer by day, Python enthusiast by heart. Always looking for ways to bridge the two worlds.

I’m all about open-source, local-first tech, and building in public. Currently hacking away on a side-project:

NowLink 🛠️
A 100% local MCP server connecting Claude Desktop directly to ServiceNow. No cloud proxies, no third-party middlemen. Just raw code running on your machine.

v0.1 concept out now (read-only working)

2-line command setup

Open-source on GitHub

If you are into Python, AI integration, or ServiceNow, let’s connect!

Check out the first project update here:
https://nowlink.beehiiv.com/p/nowlink-v01

#servicenow #python #mcpserver #buildinpublic #localfirst #opensource #devstr
