Not in the same context, but patrons of a research library have the same right to privacy. I work in a Nordic public library, and our laws actually prohibit attaching personally identifying information to publicly browsable reserves like this. This is about privacy and yes, sometimes it is related to danger. Think about these situations: An abused housewife reserves a book about getting away from a relationship. A gay teenager from a conservative family reserves a book about coming out. A public figure reserves a book about cancer after getting a diagnosis.
