Ever since I retired, 19 years ago -- has it really been 19 years? -- everyday is pretty much the same to me -- meaning that I could do whatever I wanted with my time -- but I'm mindful of the holidays & weekends when there are certain things that I can't or don't want to do because everyone else has the day off. 😉

Retirement has always been wonderful to me. 😊

I've never needed an excuse to keep a bottle of sparkling wine in my frig & at least 6 in my pantry ("wine cellar") .

I usually open one to serve with a couple of steamed dungeness crabs, corn on the cob & sour dough bread that I share with a guest or just eat alone by myself. 😉

My ranking is based on how clearly (to me) each opening scene set the tone of the film & my expectations of future action in the film based on it and on how quickly it was able to accomplish that plus how entertaining & engaging it was to me (how well it grabbed my attention & made me want to see more of the film, even if it wasn't entirely clear where it was headed).

Goldfinger now gets Honorable Mention for the music (Shirley Bassey's singing of the title song) & the the clips from the film superimposed in the various images on the woman's golden body to give a suggestion of what to expect to see later in the film.

FYI, I looked at opening scenes for over 100 films including the ones on your list, the list you referenced and others to arrive at my decision.

I intentionally left off films with opening scenes that I considered "too long such as the #Godfather which are something more than just an opening scene.

I also chose/leaned towards openings that were un-narrated & established the basis for the rest of the movie going forward without the need for further explanation.

This does not mean that I do not like any of the other movies openings mentioned in your or other lists. It just means that these are my favorites among the +100 that I have recently watched to make this selection:

There are a lot of articles on the Net which discuss the reasons why a college education is "so expensive" now..

From what I've read, the main reason are:

1) Increased administrative & salary costs;
2) Reduced state/federal subsidies;
3) The lack of (or reduced amount of) alumni & other private funding, mainly for public schools; Harvard & Yale have nothing to worry about in this regard; and
4) Colleges can charge whatever they like based on what they see as the "demand" for a college education.

Among the factors that maintain demand for a college education are:

The the idea that you can move up socioeconomically by getting one & the availability of financial aid & the willingness to assume student debt to get one.

But the demand for a college education is being blunted by the escalating costs & fewer people think that a college education is "worth" what they thought it was worth before. 🤷‍♂️

I use to love using the #Amazon lockers. Did so for years but recently 2 orders were delivered to the lock I use WITHOUT a pickup code.

Had to call Amazon "customer service" twice to get the numbers. The 1st call was easy, the 2nd was an ordeal. Made a complaint, for whatever good it would do, & have stopped using the locker ever since.

Can deliver whatever I don't need right away to my PO & things I need more quickly (or that are more expensive) I'm delivery to my house.

Not a big deal to take deliveries at home, since I'm almost always at home but I'd still prefer to use the lockers because I can choose when to pickup the orders but I just can't trust the one that I use (which is the closest one to me). I could try using another but then it would be less convenient.

The system is great when it works but a PITA when it doesn't. 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately, the Giants (74-72) have to play the next 3 games (& 7 of those) 16 games vs the #Dogers (3 in SF & 4 in LA). ☹️

They'll really only have a chance of catching the Mets if they can take at least 4 of the 7 games from the Dodgers & then take at least 6 out of the remaining 9 games from the #Cardinals (3), #Dbacks (3) & #Rockies (3). That would be a record of 10-6 over their last 16 games.

I read somewhere that there was a combo shot in development & hope that that is soon approved for use.

I learned to parallel park on the steep hills of San Francisco. There are very few head-in parking spaces in The City &, those that exist, are often located on steep hills, where if you loose the grip on your door, it will dent the car next to you. LOL!

I also learned to drive in a stick shift VW back in 1966 & my graduation test was to stop in the middle of the hill on Pine between Grant & Kearney (which anyone who lives/drives in SF knows is a VERY steep hill) & to start again using the clutch & parking brake w/o killing the engine.

I passed & one of my cars is still a stick shift now. 😉

What women have to put up with being women -- from body shaming, to cosmetics, to menstruation to menopause to sexual harassment to pay disparity to gender discrimination . . . ad nauseum --- certainly is daunting but yet there are so many wonderful women in the world (many in my own family, my mother who was among them) who have overcome these barriers and who make (and have made) the world a far better place to live in (starting with their families & communities).

Men owe their very existence to woman & we (men) should do more to show our appreciation for the women in our lives everyday.

I saw an earlier broadcast of #Yellowface on #PBS &, like others of Hwang's plays, I didn't like it. 🤷‍♂️

That's too bad. If he had lived in the Bay Area or went to Berkeley at the time, there was an entire militia of organizations created to help men avoid the draft (legally & otherwise) at the time. One of those organizations helped me to achieve that.

Kudos to your husband for serving our country during the VN War & my sympathies for the disabilities that he continues to suffer as a result.

I'm of the same generation as you & he but, instead of serving, I chose to do whatever I could to avoid the draft (my draft # of 92 was called in 1970) when I was just 19 while I was still at senior at Berkeley & I was prepared to drive to Mexico or Canada & take residence there , if that effort was unsuccessful.

Fortunately that was unnecessary. I feel no remorse for avoiding serving in the military at that time because I did not "believe" in that war & history has proven that it was unjustified.

I'm just sorry that so many young men lost their lives because of the arrogance, hubris, duplicitiousness & indifference of our political leaders at the time & that men, like your husband, continue to suffer because of their faith in the government which was so heartlessly betrayed.

I don't believe in a "god," but, if you do, "god bless you" nonetheless.

Kudos to the the city for its obviously consistent enforcement of its height limitation on #skyscrapers.

In contrast, the #DeptOfPlanning in #SanFrancisco has allowed the construction of large skyscrapers of varying heights apparently without any rhyme or reason & obviously without any consistency whatsoever, resulting in many offenses, the most egregious being the "erection" of the monstrosity called the #SalesForceTower which at over 1k feet towers over every other building & looks entirely out of place.🤦

I may have missed it but I haven't seen any mention of the #Oscars awards show airing tonight on #ABC @ 4pm Pacific Time.

I never watch the show live in order to avoid all of the lame jokes, time fillers & to just skip to the announcement of winners & (if they're interesting, the acceptance speeches) off of my DVR which is all set up to record the event while I watch something else.

I've seen all 10 of the movies nominated for #BestPicture and all of the movies for which an actor or actress has been nominated for a major award & "preferences" for the the winners some but not all of which align with the predictions that I've read online)

I lost my ability to speak Cantonese when my parents intentionally decided not to do that based on the mistaken belief that it would impair my ability to speak English & "assimilate," while many of my school aged friends spoke Cantonese & English fluently because their parents didn't do that. 🤷
