      apparently 8^x = x^12 has at least (real) 3 solutions&lt;br/&gt;one of them is easier to find than the others (which i&amp;#39;ve seen found using newton&amp;#39;s method)&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;taking ln of both sides&lt;br/&gt;xln8 = 12lnx&lt;br/&gt;x/lnx = 12/ln8 &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;this is the same problem just restated: how does one know there are 3 solutions in that?&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;generally: &lt;br/&gt;1) for problems of the form&lt;br/&gt;k^x = x^c &lt;br/&gt;how many solutions are there?&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;2) what is the inverse function of x/lnx (or equivalently, xlnx) ? it&amp;#39;s slope at its identity e is 1/2 apparently. (i mean beyond just calculating a table). seems like a function that comes up a lot&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;#math
