They force me to be the best I can be, because I don&#39;t want to let anyone down. I want my companions to get beautiful winter weather, clear nights with nordlys and a taste of the most delicious local cuisine. <br/> <br/>I want them to come to Norway and feel like they&#39;ve had an utterly unique experience that nobody else has ever had. And this workshop was just that. <br/> <br/>Anyhoo, here&#39;s a few shots from the final daytime outing, about 24 hours ago. It feels like the govt isn&#39;t trying to build a better society, but instead just wants to funnel more wealth to shareholders. And my focus is to avoid being swallowed up by exploitative systems both offline and online. We headed out into the forest to shoot auroras and had a wonderful show. My guests couldn&#39;t believe it. We woke them at 11:30pm and said we&#39;re heading out to shoot. I wasn&#39;t sure about making that call, but Shellie gave me a nod to do it anyway. So glad I did. <br/> <br/>These folk have travelled across the world to photograph auroras, and we&#39;re doing our best to make that possible. Most of Arctic Norway and Sweden and Finland is under cloud cover tonight, and the solar winds forecast was negligible. But like I said, a dozen little things turned in our favour. <br/> <br/>We have a really good rain shadow and tonight it delivered again. Clear skies. And we&#39;re right under the aurora oval, so even a KP 1.6 can generate a decent show. <br/> <br/>Plus Shellie&#39;s reminder that, yes we&#39;re here to wake them in the middle of the night and say &#34;get dressed!&#34; Plus the zillions of generous things our friends here have done to make it possible to run this kind of workshop. <br/> <br/>I&#39;m rambling now. We had a nice day out earlier, and then a marvellous few hours shooting aurora by moonlight. There was one wave come through that filled the entire sky from East to West, North to South. Everyone did well. The second night we went harder, and ventured into the forest on a quiet little trail. <br/> <br/>Under the moonlight we captured the fresh snow and frost that blanketed everything in white. And then the nordlys arrived! The nordlys came and went. I stopped every so often and sized up some photography, then moved further along the trail. Slowly slowly. Took me over 5 hours to cover 2.5kms. <br/> <br/>Every so often the nordlys went disco. Then slip back into a gentle jazz mode. I found myself enjoying these slow moments. It&#39;s a long list. One thing that stands out is how she creates a space of calm around her.<br/><br/>I love the calm.<br/><br/>The lack of drama. The lack of chaos. The lack of uncertainty. <br/><br/>Last night I was out with the Nordlys for 7 hours, and got back home a little before midnight. She had the fire going, a little music and we shared a very late but very delicious hot meal together. I felt warm and nourished and safe.<br/><br/>She makes our home a place of order, but also of calm. It&#39;s full of soft edges and comfortable moments.
