After personally preferring the tallow base, I also discovered that coconut oil salve does not handle heat well. <br/><br/>I did a test this morning with my tallow based salve but having it in my hot truck all day to see what happened and nothing changed! I’ll use what I need for the recipe and then the rest of them for other things until the jar is empty. Then I will refill them with fresh eggs as I collect them to use over the winter if needed. I’ll reuse the solution one or two more times. We didn’t need to supplement over the winter much last year so want to get these used up before they are forgotten. With comfrey you can crush up and mix in with your compost pile and it does pretty much everything manure will do. And if you have plants growing nearby it’s incredibly cheap and cuts down on waste. You can also place comfrey leaves beneath the soil where seedlings are growing to boost their growth and safeguard them from disease. <br/><br/>The plants themselves also help with soil conditioning. If you have thick or clay-rich soil that you want loosening, you can plant comfrey in the area. The root system of comfrey will break up the hard soil and promote better irrigation. This leads to more arable soil for future gardening ventures.<br/><br/>So besides it being beautiful, it is one of the first plants to come up in the spring and the purple flowers are constantly buzzing with happy bees, it has so many amazing uses!<br/><br/>We sell comfrey roots on our Etsy page that are super easy to plant. They are dug out directly from our property out back. They can grow in pretty much any garden zone and do well in shade or sun. These roots can be shipped.
