It might have been a waste of Harris' time but I wish she had pushed harder. The answer is clearly "no, he would not veto a ban" but it would be very bad for him to admit that

I thought he answered the Ukraine question, even if he refused to use their wording. The answer was obviously no, he wants to negotiate an end not support Ukraine winning. Honestly one of his clearer and more truthful answers.

But emotionally it invites outrage and confrontation instead of inclusion and mutual acceptance. We should look for language that makes people think: isn't it great that someone can express themselves, who couldn't have before?

I suppose this #nanowrimo controversy is not unexpected: https://www.wired.com/story/nanowrimo-organizers-classist-and-ableist-to-condemn-ai/

They posted something basically saying it's fine if you use #AI in your writing, probably in response to questions or pressure about it. And I think they went a little further, basically asking people not to admonish others for using AI.

It probably didn't help that by using words like "ableist" they invited this kind of bitter and divisive discussion... that seems to follow that word everywhere.

I've read a lot of discussion on #LLMs and whether they can reason.

The more I think about it the more unreasonable the debate seems. Obviously LLMs can reason. Even simple instructions require reasoning... parsing instructions that use negatives, pronouns chained conditionals, this is all normal LLM capability. There's no pattern match against a training corpus that can accomplish that.

I think there's a kind of bias against normal human thought that dismisses this as "reasoning" ...
