I read it, after getting past the eventually obvious terms like MeFites. I see it's also part of a long thread, which I have not read. That said, the "My personal beliefs" section especially resonated with me, and is probably why I jumped in as Reply Guy in the first place, albeit unadvisedly and awkwardly.

Thanks. I am privileged, and try to remember to be grateful for what I have and what I don't have to endure. I do tend to be judgemental when I'm not paying attention, and probably came off that way this time. I would do better to carefully say something like, "Your reaction is completely valid. I personally try to take a different path."

That still sounds judgmental, doesn't it? Sigh.

"Don't police people's feelings." Interesting. I guess I was, though I was trying, probably not entirely successfully, to simply express that I take a different approach. Hate what the person did, but try to recognize that people are complicated, and have families. I'm against capital punishment for the same reasons, regardless of the crime.

I try very hard to be a good person, even though I'm an atheist. I would be very surprised if my death is celebrated.

I replied to a boosted post that celebrated today's death saying I prefer not to celebrate anyone's death, even if the deceased was evil. I got blasted for that, as I don't think I have ever been before on Mastodon.

So *this* thread is the antidote I needed to read. Thank you!
