To me it sounds great to make these services more expensive, it will benefit the alternatives. But I could be wrong.

And that passenger trains are running on the tracks owned by the cargo train company. Cargo gets priority. The train we see here is also a cargo train.

The trams in Amsterdam were running fine after the freezing nights thanks to an employee initiative called 'Night Riders'.

During the night they would ride trams to keep the overhead lines ice free. They came up with this solution after a similar cold situation years earlier.

It worked and they were proud. With the compliments to them from Melanie the city elder on LinkedIn. And many inhabitants.

This reminds me of my (only) visit to a 'big box' store near Amsterdam this year.

I rented a car to get mousetraps because they were sold out in all local shops. It would be 20 minutes by bike and it was half an hour before closing time.

The parking lot is on the ground floor, the box is build on top of it. Solid concrete structures, it will probably stay there for many decades.

I didn't stay long because the rented car is cheaper if you return it quickly.

In Amsterdam I would feel entitled to just take over the road and bike in the middle of it. Don't expect much anger from the motorists because they can see there is no alternative. Would not be fined I am sure, for the same reason. Luckily the bike lanes are cleaned and I never felt the need for such a stunt. Probably the city understands what a mess it would be if bicyclists are all deprived of their bike lane and start using the main road.

Yikes, more bicycling streets? Always a bad idea to have cars share infrastructure with bikes. Even if the cars are pulled by donkeys or pushed manually. Still not good. The city writes that the volume of bicyclists during rush hour is just too big. Better have the cars share space with the tram.

I expect the latter. Taxi drivers can pretend to drive around with customers (I see a lot of them driving around empty) and at the end of the day deposit cash at the bank pretending the cash is from clients. While in fact it is drugs money coming from a gigantic pile of garbage bags with ‘useless' cash.

Also you can see tourists getting in a taxi for just a few hundred meters. They bought a little envelope or some pills while bureaucratically they paid for a ride!

After receiving more ad hominem insults from Amsterdam’s most vocal taxidriver (because I said something in the newspaper) I was wondering, have we already seen a video from Not Just Bikes 🇳🇱 (npub1z7x…q5jf) about taxis? In what way do they contribute to a city? I think of Amsterdam, which is a magnet for taxis, one for every 351 inhabitants! https://www.ilent.nl/onderwerpen/taxiontwikkelingen-en-trends/marktbeeld In a city where you can cross the old centre by foot in 30 minutes. Amsterdam can't limit them without better national legislation.

better yet, “the fire department does not allow more cars on this important street” is a message I would like to see on busy roads. With some traffic filter to decrease the capacity of the road, pushing traffic jams back to neighbourhoods. So people can decide: to leave this mess I can just take a bike to that important road and ride together with others. Like... a bus?
