I’m new to starting tomatoes from seed - first year purposefully doing so, or at least in a very long time. Fellow gardeners, do you have a rough estimate from initial leaves to first true leaves? My seeds all popped up within a few days, but have since (almost three weeks) kind of stalled and I’m wondering what others’ experience is. I read 2-3 weeks is typical.

#gardening #tomatoes

Rain barrels are pretty amazing, but I need more of them *and* some additional storage after they are full. Big thunderstorm tonight, after maybe 30 minutes the 40 gal (? - I'm not sure, I need to check) barrel was full. Drained off about 10 gallons into small jugs, and it was basically immediately full again. There's rain in the forecast for the next week, and with this supply, I'll be good for at least a week after that for the various plantings I've done recently.

#gardening

My wife got me a book recently, *How to Make a Wildlife Garden,* by Chris Baines, and so far, so good:

“There are three simple principles you need to adopt if you are going to create a successful woodland-edge habitat. You must develop several layers of plants one above the other; you must include a good range of native plants, from trees down to carpeting wildflowers; and you must build up a rich layer of dead and decaying material, from big logs to fine leaf mold.”

#gardening #wildlife

Been a while since I’ve done this, so here’s my bio as #introduction: I'm a vegan, software developer (#rust #RustLang #python #sql #shell #css #html), tree lover, and father of the most adorable toddler in the world. I live in southeastern Pennsylvania, and post a fair bit about #gardening (usda zone 7b).
#linux for some number of years now - Debian and Pop are my favorites. #helix is a fantastic editor.
Death to all things Microsoft.
“Surprisingly handy.”
