There was also a lot of time before but the Democrats didn't even act for gay marriage till years after the Supreme Court did the work for them. Just saw someone say that if you don't vote then the Democrats have to go further right to get voters which I think really misses two points. One is protest votes don't just happen, they are because the candidate is not appealing to their base. Sure, some will never vote but look at 2008 and 2020 when progressives turned out. Second is that as you move more right the more the base you lose, you are never going to out reactionaries the fascist
