I need to share this so others can know how truly awful things are. DLSS 5 has been announced to release this year, and it's utterly disgusting. Genuinely just looks like it takes the scenes and removes things like lighting, particle effects, and fog and then slaps a shitty AI face onto any face in the scene.

Even without playing requiem myself, this Leon before and after is just gross. Takes a clearly intentionally dark scene, and makes it brighter while increasing focus on the details that do not matter to the scene like wrinkles.

Genuine closest I know of without doing a deep dive is one where the guy is Satori's lover and in the second half Koishi just gives him horny pills and (arguably) rapes him for the sake of it just because she's horny.

Big props to GOG, this doesn't mean much for linux (most people hearing GOG would probably think it's a weird kink thing instead of a games platform, it'll only appeal to people who already know what GOG is and thus mostly people who already have a partial knowledge and appreciation for linux) but I'm glad to see GOG actually support Linux, it makes the DRM-free ideal seem more possible.

At the same time, still feel the need to shit on GOG for not having launcher features in the standalone installers. I get it, you don't want to encourage piracy. Fantasy Maiden Wars is finally out, with a release sale price putting it at ~$30 USD for launch. This isn't an unexpected price, as this is a massive four title collection designed to last for a long time telling a lot of stories. Still, it's quite unusual for a doujin title, but that just goes to show how much effort is here.

Funnily enough the OST is more expensive than the game, even at the game's normal price on the steam page. It's a bit much but the reason for the price is the fact that there's a whopping 13 discs of music with 234 total tracks on the OST.

This is depressingly true and easy to see if you've ever followed any smaller, say doujin, anime project. Go to example would be Fantasy Kaleidoscope ~The Memories of Phantasm~. Making a doujin anime of Touhou was immensely difficult for the circles involved, so much so that there isn't any voice acting (which is why any release with a VO track sounds a little odd, the series was never officially voiced). It took over a decade to release 18 total episodes, each shorter than the TV standard 20-24 minutes. Episode 18 had to serve as a sudden and unplanned ending too after things stopped working out (though after a two year break an episode 19 has been finished and is soon to be sold).

That's on a far smaller scale mind. To keep up with an anime season to be properly recognized, you'd need a full cour of show to air weekly for 12-13 episodes. It's a daunting task for even the most organized of groups.

Linux development right now has a lot of problems caused by the lack of concrete leadership. I felt like I was having a stroke reading the discussions on Wayland's official development page about how they do not want to add any cross-compatibility functionality for setting a main monitor in case software asks for it (i.e. Windows software running through Wine). It's the kind of feature that users expect to have. Lots of Linux software is full of gaps like that, intentional or not. A good OS like SteamOS cannot fix those kinds of pressing issues unless Valve were to outright take over a lot of linux projects.

I'm disappointed. Really. So this game's first demo was a lot more mysterious and atmospheric. Things were left far more for the player to decide upon and solve. There were a few mysteries where I swore I could do something more but couldn't figure it out myself.

Now this game is lacking in that manner. RPG mechanics have been added, which is fine I guess. However the Scarlet Devil Mansion commentary has messed with the game a bit. They will nonstop keep popping in with bare-bones comments or solutions to puzzles. Their suggestions and favor really don't seem to mean much of anything right now. Situations where you can choose who you add favor to often end the same way regardless of choice. Providing solutions to puzzles wasn't a joke by the way, early on a simple puzzle relating to an enemy type is presented and a solution is nearby. Originally it didn't elaborate on that because it figured you were smart enough to understand enemy weakness after being shown. Now the SDM characters chime in to say "wow, enemy is weak to that."

Despite calling leveling fine earlier, I am actually mixed on the mechanical implementation. Choosing a SDM character to side with for influence and what you receive is fine but I also feel that it takes away from the pure dice gameplay of the first demo. It made it so the player could be backed into a corner and have to find another way out of a situation. Now the player can be over-prepared just by performing a few actions and getting a level.

There's also the Steam save editor which can be used to pretty easily recreate all you'd care about in your save file. Not sure if it still works but I could test.

Not gonna argue the point of slop since that's highly opinionated. I'm not really sure whether or not I consider the game slop right now. It's definitely struggling to have any identity of Doom though. All it really has of that is when it pans the camera out and shows the armor. It's struggling against even it's own claimed identity as mentioned with the fact it claims to be "medieval" but then the player enters a clearly science fiction lab to pick up a plasma weapon.
The biggest issue in all of this though is the fact that the game probably isn't even bad to play. It seems like a fine enough FPS and that's enough to sell it even though it has far too high a price point. It's likely going to keep selling and companies will assume it's what the people want and try to make more.

My biggest takeaway from seeing some footage of Doom The Dark Ages was how weirdly paced the start is. Like there's an entire section of tutorial in stage two about money and using it to buy upgrades. It has a big comedic MMO quest notifier in the corner and everything.
