Ok, but why *don't* they tell him to shut the fuck up? I get that it's kind of a faux pas in politics, but surely that's only the case when everyone's playing by the same rules. And, yes, those rules are bad and allow a lot of horrific stuff to happen, but, if anything, that should be more of a reason that everyone should be telling him to shut the fuck up. Democrats really aren't left-wing. A teensy portion of them are moderately left-wing, but taken as a whole it's a very moderately right-wing conservative party. Look at what they do when they're in power: they make a few showy but minor changes, but primarily maintain the status quo as handed to them by the very-not-conservative Republican party. If they were actually progressives, Obama would have rolled back EVERYTHING Bush did and then pushed forward.

It's an important distinction as the only argument I've ever heard against compulsory voting is that it somehow impedes on an individual's rights. Even if they could somehow compel you not to invalidate your ballot, I don't see how it impedes anyone's rights. It's certainly less intrusive than jury duty (which people grumble about, but never actually suggest is a violation of rights), and *way* less than the US Selective Service System.

There is one pen. There are two pens. There are zero pens.

It gets a tad confusing when dealing with fractions, though. There are 0.5 pens. There is half a pen. The second is saying "half of one pen", so it's singular, while the first is providing a quantity that is not singular. If you said "there are two thirds of a pen" the pen is singular while the number of thirds is plural.

It depends on a lot of things, the size, the shape, the material, how everything is put together, etc. Ideally, the manufacturers would design things in such a way that maximises re-entry vaporisation, but I don't think that's always the case (the only motivation is the possibility of the operating company being responsible for retrieving the object from private property and possibly paying for any repairs).
