This one is a significant milestone: all planned content has been drafted; we do not expect any new sections at this point.

Main changes:
- Added Appendix B on generalized algebraic theories! This resolves some unfinished business from earlier in the book, by proving the "initiality theorem" for ETT/ITT.
- Added a draft of Section 4.4 on observational type theory.
- Removed "solutions to selected exercises", and converted the most important handful of exercises into lemmas with proofs.
- Various improvements to Chapter 6 (categorical semantics).
- Expanded Section 3.6 on undecidability of equality in ETT, including a series of exercises establishing the undecidability of equality in TT with judgmental Nat-eta.

https://www.carloangiuli.com/papers/type-theory-book.pdf

Very interesting experiment by Nihar B. Shah, who contacted authors of ten Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR) submissions slated for desk rejection, and asked them to explain their submission over Zoom.

One frightening statistic from the article: "The fraction of desk rejected papers at TMLR used to be about 6% in 2023 but is now at about 53%."

https://medium.com/@TmlrOrg/asking-authors-about-their-own-papers-3d2e04e5dee0

I hope arXiv will finally be able to make some needed quality-of-life improvements. Do you love and/or hate HoTT or dependent type theory? Come do a Ph.D. with me to develop applications of HoTT to verified functional programming and/or think outside the box about how we can make dependent type theory work better.

I recently received a grant to study the Univalent Verification of Parameterized Structures, and I need Ph.D. students to spend that money on. Application deadline December 15 to start Fall 2025.
