Not the second Sorby gouge yet. This is a third, bigger gouge. I wanted to try a different style handle, a double tapered octagon. This time ash, not beech. Took the tinted oil much differently. More blond. A brass ferrule would look better here.

I wanted the knot on top, but had the handle taped when sinking tang, forgot, and… got it wrong! Pissed me off. Tang hole is also slightly off center. Also pissed me off.

But handle feels good. I like this form better.

It must be. The teeth on this littler saw were 3 mm tall. I adjusted the stop bar to 3mm. The depth of plunger is adjusted with the other screw holding the spring. The plunger on this one has a slight curve, a belly. Thus I figured the nose of the plunger should be in direct line with edge of anvil. The tooth point rests against the stop. Plunge. The belly sets the tooth.

Don’t know for sure, but it worked as visioned.

I need a 10” regular taper saw file for 3 ½ ppi, seemingly, and while many places in the area sell Bahco files, none sell that size, and Bahco doesn’t sell direct.

I can’t even find one on Amazon FR. I don’t want to pay shipping fees that are twice the price of the damn file.

Time to look over the border, and at other makers.

Effective immediately and definitively, I no longer use scotch brite pads and similar in my #restorations, #woodworking, or anything else. These products fall apart into plastic dust as they are used, going straight into the environment.

There is a global #microplastics problem. And with the new study released about them accumulating in our brains, as well other organs, well…

We need to do better since corporations & governments won’t. The onus is on us.

Steel wool for the win!

#smallthings

I am pretty damn frustrated by the gardening I’ve embarked on since February. No one else at home cares (ergo no help). Everything seems to be stunted, dying, or getting eaten by some fucking thing or another. Then there’s the stinky cat shit. Every damn day!

I’m good at pulling weeds, but that seems to be it. I could have been happier in the atelier, not wasting my time. Can only imagine how much.

</ gardening_blues>

Have declared war on the slugs and snails on our property. They are out of control right now. I don’t dare put my plants into soil yet or they will be annihilated. Even having a couple chickens and a tribu of hedgehogs would not scratch the problem.

So… habitation traps, beer traps, and vinegar blasts on sight effective immediately.

Other ideas welcome (but no commercial chems/pesticides).

#gardening
#slugs

I need to find time to get out and prune and thin the apple and cherry trees before it warms up. They haven’t been done in what looks like a couple years at least. Also need to move the small fig to a more open space. Someone had put it right next to a wall.

I have no clue what shape the row of raspberries are in. I’ve no experience with keeping those. We’ll see. Probably bird food.

I need a kiwi source; a starter branch, or something. I must not understand the language settings (seemingly apply to ‘public’ timelines), or they are not working.

I have English and French checked; the only two languages I can read. But I still get lots of posts in languages I can’t read. As much as I might like to translate them, I never do, so I really don’t need to see them.

Is my home TL not considered a public TL?

And does following a hashtag override language filtering?

That last one seems to be true.
