It’s the only interpretation that makes any sense. Someone at a dinner party once asked us what we’d do if we were a billionaire. I said I had to preface any answer with the fact that I would never be a billionaire; by the time I’d hit even half a billion I’d have enough to do and learn everything I’ve ever wanted. I recall learning that suing the US government has a tricky end result, where final payment has to be appropriated by Congress regardless of the fact that the plaintiff already prevailed in court. But if someone with a contract sues here for non-payment and prevails, would that still apply given that Congress ALREADY approved the expenditure?

Pargin is interesting in that way. Having read a lot of his stuff, and recently having seen a number of his tickityclip sorts of things, I am confident he’s firmly mentally in favor of equality. He seems like he’s got a strain of libertarian-esque attitudes about what is and isn’t practical (which I don’t totally agree with) and the subsequent Zoey books tread on it a bit along the way.

I enjoyed this one but IMNSHO it’s not his best work. The Zoey Ashe stuff is SF/near future rather than this one’s very contemporary flavor which may not be to everyone’s taste but if you enjoy the mileage he gets out of batshit situations in this one it’ll be up your alley.

I was in a chat group for folks during the pandemic who wanted to find ways to use 3D printing to help with shortages and in general. One fellow was very proud of a design he came up with for an appliance you could mount to the wall to help change your rubber gloves without needing to touch them.
