Planted 20 odd spuds, all from a supermarket bag I'd forgotten I had couple months ago. All sprouted rootlets. Now the waiting game.

Grapes have started green shoots, most of the cuttings have taken. Weirdly, broadbeans are flowering but they are hardly 5 in tall . .. strawberries also fruiting though some have perished .

The rest growing in pots in the greenhouse.

Worked on the pond edges, lined the sides halfway down using three cloth pots, the sort used to move treelings about, cut lengthwise, the idea is to cover the plastic and maybe a frog will choose the place for froglets. Also filled the gaps between stones with stone scalping kindly donated by the plotter next door.

At the plot. It's raining in a variety of densities, no drizzle.
Stuff is growing despite the weather. Indoors, strawbs have gone mad and grow vertically .... well, so far.

Also various beans which will go outdoors later, still too cold for them.

Weirdly broadbeans are already flowering tho they're barely 15cm high.
I've bought a bag of them in a food shop and they originate from Iran, of all places.

Grapes are starting green shoots, lil carrots tops, leeks and garlic also. Spuds.

Nice.

Arrived at the plot at 10am. Decided to get rid of the outside greenhouse enough of it, though I have the parts. Sort of.

Emptied 2 sacs of soil on the spuds area, moved half a dozen wood pieces, ready for the fire....

Found the fedeer empty, birds have discovered the way to remove the perches, in metal, from the plastic tube. Seeds poured out and were eaten.

Windy now, 24C in the glasshouse, filled in some gaps in the frames so as to reduce draft.

Yesterday had a weird sighting. A blue tit landed in the perch of the plastic feeder, tapped the plastic, stopped, tapped again then picked up a large peanut and flew off.

Have been wondering if the bird made a free choice, that one instead of any of the hundreds of seeds available.

Otherwise fine, broadbeans are growing outdoors, am having a major burst of beans in the trays in the kitchen.

Borlotti, white, pinto and black turtle beans. Plus 5 different tomatoes one of which off the shelves of a known supermarket.

Also put up the glasshouse frame, work in progress.

I have a plan! :o) - the idea is to beat the blight; as spuds grow throughout the year - like cabbage and broadbeans - the idea is to plant them now to have them ready about June, as the blight - a fungus - does crop up around this time.. we'll see.

Yesterday did some landscaping at the plot, just tidying up. Made a new Bridge over the Ditch, using a small pallet and some lengths of artificial turf, cut that in half and made it narrower and longer.

Checked the broadbeans, ok, also garlic and leeks, ok. Spuds went in yesterday, the aldi variety, two months ago put two bags of new spuds in a dark container, added some water and let it be. They all sprouted.

While at it, a while ago found in the wood chips heap, a number of bark sections, large and small; so am using them to cover the newer ugly wood in the shed screweing them in to cover such sections; will work on it.

Meanwhile in the flat, trays are coming up with greenery: four variety of beans, onions, carrots, cauliflower and something else I forgot what. This morning had the disappointment of having a puncture on the bike attached to the trailer, so didn't take the stone slabs recovered (with permission) from an alley nearby.

Was going to repair the barrow's wheel but can't because the beading is broken. BAH!!

Am using a non functional brewing machine of some sort to trigger root growth in spuds. Mad yes, still, working.

Plot news!

Soooo.... went in yesterday to find the broad beans survived and are growing. Also garlic and leeks. And weeds.

No, not that. A plotter gave me a large piece of plastic to refit the greenhouse in return I gave him 24 long canes and 10 broadbeans. Nice.

Today, plot activity consisted of repairing the wooden hedge, to consolidate the verticals used some steel bars normally used to hold that horrible safety sheets to be found in roadworks, they were here since years ago.

Then replaced a few thick and heavy glass on the glasshouse top, was leaking right on the one chair I have in there. Testing required.

So far so good, tomorrow more of this

I spotted a woodpecker in flight, couple days ago, red end. Also am threatened with plot eviction because the Council claims I am not growing anything. They called when I wasn't there, missed the grape, garlic and leeks, say they want at least a third being cultivated, issued warning.

It's late autumn, they called in the wrong season.

Plotting.... plotting plotting.... soo, tomatoes, most beans, chilli, not ripening. Doubt they'll do it over the following months... chillies might.

Picked the only 6 pears off the one small tree, ate one, ripe 'n' delicious. While at it, spotted a beautiful honey bee, flew close to my nose.

Weeded a lot outdoors, reduced leafage in both green/glass houses, dropped the cuttings in the compost bin, including weekly kitchen cutouts. Cutoffs. Bits and pieces. Am feeling vaguely poetic.

After more than a week absence, at the plot stuff is growing but not ripening, oddly enough. Only the black beans are maturing, and have a pound weight of them, the rest still green, glasshouse and greenhouse. Something's wrong with the weather I think.

Anyway, watered the lot and weeded a little here and there. An oak I planted 5 years ago is producing nuts. Pear tree also, not ready yet.

Phew! Spent two hours sifting the contents of the older compost bin, using a sieve proper for gardening. Mixed that with a barrowful of soil I had in here for the purpose, removed several large and small glass shards, a few pottery shards, including two bits of melted glass and a few ballast stones.

Meanwhile beans and tomatoes grow very well, FYI tomatoes are from a shelf, vine variety, beans off bean bags also from another shop. Spuds have apparently failed. Chillies growing.

On the way to the plot spotted a few sunflowers growing around a tree on the road.
