Jesus Christ!

"The watchdog report marks the first time a government agency has confirmed the existence of the cramped cages at the South Florida Detention Facility. Amnesty International found in a report published in December, based on interviews with detainees and a tour of the facility, that the cages were used to punish detainees and amounted to torture, sparking a congressional probe."

It's also possible that bsd.cafe is under-speced for the users on it. It took me a while to tune toot.works to work well.

Already?

"U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland planned for Friday were cancelled as fighting flared in Lebanon, creating new uncertainty about the timing of negotiations vital to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping."

Last night I was trying to figure out a good native markdown editor that would work on both my Linux VM and my Windows VM. I decided to give #Obsidian a try. The company sells a data syncing service, but you could also save your personal vault locally or in iCloud. iCloud really isn't an option for those two VMs but I could save it onto a network share.

I'm probably never going to do anything significant on Bluesky just because I see switching from a platform that Jack Dorsey sold to a madman to a platform that Jack Dorsey hasn't yet sold to a madman is a little self-destructive. I am hoping that they adopt ActivityPub at some point, though. How great would it be if your network could be on BS, Threads, or Mastodon, and what they are using doesn't matter? 🤷‍♂️

I got an idea a week or two ago to start exploring using ML to detect police squad cars in intersections using publicly accessible traffic cameras in the #Milwaukee area. If I can manage to do it, I would want to keep a NoSQL database with the intersection, the time, the date, and (if possible) what the police agency is. Somebody gave me the idea today I could overlay those numbers with crime statistics and housing values to try to find a correlation. …
