I’m keeping with my Bitcoin theme from last year, but this time I wanted to do something more creative, easier, and hopefully more interesting.

This year’s gift comes with two options, so you can choose what works best for you.

Bitcoin has some benefits here in Canada, where we’re lucky to live with relatively stable money and banking.

But around the world, Bitcoin can have very different and often more important uses — helping people:

This challenge is simply a way to explore those real-world uses through true stories, not theory or price talk.

I traveled on a vacation to Asia in 2018 and didn't even go to Mainland China but it struck me then that Asia is so far ahead of what the average westerner thinks its incomprehensible to even explain it to them.

Example - off the coast of Singapore i looked and saw 100's of Cargo ships. Not the small river vessels either - the huge oceanliners. Never have I seen something that resembles that in the west and I have traveled a fair bit.

I hold shares of several publicly traded Bitcoin-treasury companies in a registered account. Even before the conference I had begun shifting those positions into self-custody Bitcoin, but the Rodeo reinforced *why* a Bitcoin-only savings strategy matters.

The fundamental risk to treasury companies is not exchange hacks or a Coinbase failure—though those remain concerns. The larger threat is **state intervention** as the fiat system unravels, echoing the 1933 U.S. gold seizure (Executive Order 6102). If governments need hard assets, publicly listed vehicles will be the easiest targets.

My conclusion: the safest way to protect hard-earned wealth is **self-custody Bitcoin—ideally acquired without KYC**. While outright confiscation of KYC coins is technically difficult, governments can still impose punitive measures such as unrealized-gains taxes to siphon off your savings.

I remain optimistic, but the road ahead is unlikely to be smooth. I’d rather shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding my future than hand that power to the state.

That insight explains why many people feel drained. Trapped in a fiat treadmill, they sacrifice rest for extra hours at work or more late-night screen time. One panelist noted his wife—a nurse for 15 years—has *less* purchasing power today at the top of her pay scale than she did as a new graduate. Even “good” jobs can’t outrun fiat debasement.

Action items I’m exploring:

* **Screen-curfew** a few hours before bed, or at least blue-light filters/glasses.
* **Analogue downtime**—reading a physical book instead of scrolling.

It’s fascinating how many people seem to fear AI in general. From my perspective, technological advancement has been accelerating—especially over the last 150 years—and there's no real indication that this exponential trend is slowing down.

Those who believe we can or should put the brakes on are often driven by fear of the unknown, which is understandable. But even if some AI outcomes seem threatening (e.g., robots taking over), I don’t see that as likely. And more importantly—even if it were, what could any one person realistically do to stop it?

Instead of resisting the inevitable, I believe we should embrace these advancements and work toward guiding them responsibly. Done right, this progress can lead to a more abundant, efficient, and better future—not one built on fear, but on informed action.

I recently had a conversation about AI with a middle-aged farmer from rural Alberta. He’s a smart guy who manages a large farm, and he mentioned that he expects AI to make his job about 20% more efficient over the next 5–10 years.

Personally, I’ve been using tools like GROK and ChatGPT regularly, and I listen to a few tech-focused podcasts. I’d say I’m ahead of the average person when it comes to adopting AI.

1. Doing the right thing is rarely easy.

2. Spend as much time with your children as you can—you’ll never regret it.

3. Some people understand Bitcoin, and some don’t. In many cases, it’s not their fault.
I recently came across a chart showing Bitcoin adoption by personality type. Some types had over 30% adoption, while others had almost none. It really made me think—maybe, for some of us, this path is part of our destiny. And for others, it just isn’t meant to be.

Recently got back from a short vacation to Banff.

While I love the Alberta rockies these are my gripes and why I rarely go and my daughter will likely miss out on experiencing these national treasures for all the reasons below:

- Unaffordable for most Canadians ($500 per night in Canmore for a small apartment)
- Extremely busy with mostly foreign tourists
- Infrastructure is terribly inadequate

Lots of Albertans say "limit the foreign tourists"
I say thats a terrible idea and not fair to them (would you want to be restricted from seeing the world?)

The Solution is quite simple - open Banff up to development. Make Banff a hub for tourists and citizens alike - get government restrictions out of the way (development in the national parks is heavily regulated) let the free market drive the tourist industry in Banff.

This would:

- lower prices for Canadians and Foreigners alike
- allow adequate infrastructure to be built reducing the demand on existing over taxed services
- Jasper and Waterton which are similar to Banff can be left in more of a natural state for the more outdoor enthusiasts keeping development of these to a minimum.

Unfortunately because of the governments in Canada this is unlikely to happen leaving our children to spend more time and dollar(soon to be Sats) in foreign countries where its much more affordable and enjoyable.

Last show i watched was the new series of Squid Games. I've probably averaged 2 series a year for the last 4 years.

I seem to much prefer a good bitcoin audiobook or podcast.

I guess i find it a waste of time to watch TV for the most part also Hollywood and all the big media companies are corrupt pushing the DEI narrative which I can't stand.

One thing I realized is that since coming back from Egypt three months ago, I didn’t turn on any of our televisions. They were off for the three months I was in Egypt as well.

Is the Trump Administration making the markets unstable to drive foreign investment (especially China) to gold so that the US can than dump gold and buy Bitcoin and basically secure the next 100 years of a US dominated world order?

This being the most serious market melt down since I've started to seriously understanding how the macro markets work.

1. 10 Year treasury yield

2. The Carry Trade / DXY and especially the JPY vs USD

3. Stock market losing trillions in value and how that effects the US government receipts.

4. The Tariff situation and the geo-political game being played

Conclusion - A very volatile ride up for hard assets - especially Bitcoin
