Gonna be bringing up some of my (real, actual) bladder symptoms I've been experiencing for the last, like, ten years to my doc at our appointment in a couple weeks.

I haven't brough em up till this point because I've only had a family doctor for a little under a year, and this is kind of embarrassing to bring up. But mostly, internally, I've been conflicted on if I want to bring some stuff up because it's actually a problem, or because it would ALSO service my kink. Like, the fact that there's the potential for a medical action to not just bring me back up to the standard human baseline, but also make me feel good in ways that the doctor doesn't account for makes me feel weird an undeserving.

Medical stuff is weird! I'm mostly healthy enough that any time I probably SHOULD go to the doc about something, I'm like "ehhhh other people probably need it more".

I don't want to entirely get deep on the weird bladder stuff, but it would make sense for me to get a couple blood tests and potentially tested for diabetes, and COULD also result in a prescription for diapers. That last part is really what's halted me this entire time because if the doc found out that this would also make me feel good in ways beyond medical, then he might suspect ulterior motive and be less inclined to help, but it kinda just services two different parts of me.

I've mulled it over for a few months, and I figure that I just need to tell him about these symptoms and get some tests done. So long as I don't lie, or make up symptoms, I'm not breaking any pact of doctor-patient trust I don't think. Some people enjoy being in casts, that doesn't mean they shouldn't get a cast put on for a broken bone.

I dunno, I'm thinking out loud because that's what this place is for. Bottom line is:<li>I have weird bladder symptoms that I shouldn't have for my age</li><li>I'm not pursuing this for kink reasons</li><li>I've done some self-testing with taking breaks from my other meds to make sure this isn't connected to those, but the timeline of this occurring and getting worse over the last ten years wouldn't lead me to believe that anyway</li><li>I have to get up multiple times a night to pee if I'm not protected or<ul><li>I have to drink less water to prevent accidents at night, which I hate doing because I'm a thirsty fella</li></ul></li><li>I should tell my doc about this (and my other) symptoms to get properly tested</li><li>I have the potential of lining up my physical and mental health in one neat scrip</li>

Thankfully this stuff causes me no pain or anything, but I AM getting to the age where getting stuff found and taken care of early really pays off. Also, this is Canada, things like this aren't going to increase any invisible insurance premiums or cost me a bunch of money or fuck up medical records or anything

Yeah, and there's a six-year-old and very heavily commented github issue requesting a little more ownership over your account in full, including posts, but it's been pretty clear from the lack of responses there, comments from contributors elsewhere, and various quotes, that this kind of account/post ownership isn't really on the docket for Mastodon. Or at the very least it's not within their vision of how Masto should work, and is not a priority to develop as a result.

I feel like this is kinda like the quote post thing where the owner's vision goes against the people's practical desires, and getting something like post imports or more atomic accounts is going to be like pulling teeth to get implemented. The IDEAL is "it shouldn't matter what instance your account is on" but reality is far from that

Yeah I was bringing up the DID thing with Snarfed the other day because the idea of losing your entire post history because of, like, a bad mod interaction is a legitimate fear that I also have. With the Bounce thing that A New Social just released, if your mastodon account gets banned then you lose both mastodon AND bsky and that's a huge issue, but I don't have a good answer on how to fix that besides additions to the protocol.

As for BSKY's enshittification, at the very least the protocol is solid so if the app of BSKY gets real bad, then at least the protocol still exists and people can migrate around to different PDSs. If there is a core issue with moderation though, then that can't really be solved because it's all one firehose. That being said, Mastodon/fedi also has a moderation issue that a lot of fedi users refuse to acknowledge which is overstepping mods who take heresay as actionable evidence about single users, or go nuclear and defederate from an entire instance for a couple problem users. That's more of a human problem I don't have a good answer for either, and I imagine moderating a large instance for free is a hard job, but it's still a present problem.

I mean the REAL answer here is get your local selfhosting friend to spin up an instance for you and your friends, but then you gotta then do the work to become part of those relays. It's a lot of stuff for a non-technical person to process, where BSKY they just click the button and welcome whatever may come

Man this is what pisses me off SO much. I wish the masto users (me included) at the time did a better job helping and explaining to people. But even then idk if that would have worked, BSKY was big and covered by large news outlets, and their invitation system in the beginning with a few larger furries getting in early really helped set it up as the next microblog platform.

If mastodon had a better app with a piss-easy on-boarding process, and had there been some larger furry instances that were alternatives to meow.social at the time, I think we coulda seen real success here. I definitely think it’s too late now though, and the sentiment I see from a lot of people is that they will just stop using social media or keep using twitter if BSKY dies for some reason.

Stuff like this is why I want Bridgy to succeed. I trust you, I trust Keiko, I trust meow’s admins for the most part but I don’t know em as well as you or keiko, but I certainly trust em more than I trust BSKY, as good as they are, to have my best interests in mind.

I was talking about this in a group the other day and I was pretty surprised by how many people seriously, honestly used the reason that they get more interactions and dopamine from twitter so they stick around vs other platforms. I’m glad they’re honest about it, but I think it indicates a difference in why I post vs why someone with those motivations posts

I think there's a lot of ways you could do this without it being total control, like if I still had my logins and such but I was just trusting the other person to handle the rest. I hosted a nginx proxy manager container directly in proxmox without using docker. Was great besides a couple of specific needs I had.

I’ve since switched to CloudFlare Tunnels because I don’t have to open any ports on my network, and I can use external accounts (like my google workspace) to limit certain admin panels to only be used by me without having to mess around with a self-hosted middleware
