I honestly like VGA because it's the hassle-free choice. Compatible monitors are everywhere and the DIY TVGA9000 card is always a fallback if you can't find a compatible one in your parts box.

It won't run a handful of demos, but that's true of anything short of a balky old CGA 5150. Conversely, CGA for GeoWorks is awful :P

I wish the Graphics Gremlin could do VGA modes since the HDMI-ish output is even more forward compatible than VGA.

I've had only three dodgy Linux gaming experiences in recent memory:

* Blade and Soul Neo: Didn't even get past the launcher. Probably anticheated to hell.

* Breath of Fire IV (GoG release). Works but doesn't map one of my gamepads correctly.

* Genshin Impact: Since some 5.x release, it works fine once it loads, but you have to turn off the network for 10 seconds during the load process.

The long-term value for oil is in chemical products. It's a lot harder to retool the whole world of synthetic materials than switch out a power plant.

If we saved our supply for chemical use, it could sustain high-margin products for decades to come.

I suspect photorealism appeals as a risk-management strategy. The more avant-garde and abstract art becomes, the higher risk you missed the plot and end up feeling the sucker who paid $1500 for crap. With photorealism, it's easy to dismiss anything surprising as "low technical quality".

It might go all the way to being an "independent benchmark" that can be read without content. The picture is a 92.45% accurate rendition of the scene, and only 95% is Art(tm).

It feels like there's less experimentation than you'd expect.

Everyone's doing a POSIX-shaped system, maybe a basic GUI for a terminal and Tetris. It supports just enough "hardware" to run in Virtualbox. Sometimes it's written in a new language, but the user experience is the same.

I wish we'd see more new visions of userspace, maybe even atop existing kernels. For all its faults, Linux-as-Android got to focus on the user experience rather than reinventing SATA drivers.
