I.e. It's wholly unrealistic for the vast majority of the population.

Because this is absolutely true and one of the best things about fedi.

I want the platform to always have this aspect, but also be able to function as a general-purpose social media platform as well. This comes from a (admittedly idealistic) goal of having an open, democratic form of social media be the standard, so that no single entity controls it.

However, I do not have all the solutions. I think this is something that will take many great minds years to figure out*.

Big and complex topics like this are difficult to break down into concise posts without losing some information. Especially so when some of the context affects vulnerable groups or sensitive topics.

Fedi's has a distinct echo-chambering problem, as a direct result of the flexibility and distributed nature of the platform.

In part due to what's mentioned in the previous two posts, but it fundamentally comes to how fedi pre-emptively dictate not just how, but who people are allowed to communicate with through opinionated lists at an administrative level.

This is effectively [shadow-banning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_banning ) groups of people (servers), due to rumours and/or disagreements between individuals or a subset of the group's members. Cutting off communication between the groups entirely while enforcing a binary "with us/against us" view, where a middle-ground cannot exist.

By definition, these behaviours will continue to fractionalize fedi into [echo chambers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_chamber_(media) ) that will expand further away from each other while disincentivising finding a common ground.

While Fedi's hidden rules usually have good intentions at heart, they are fundamentally exclusionary in practise and stagnates the platform's growth.

Examples:<li>Content warnings are subjective and will never be consistently used. Yet, we shame anyone who don't use them in a way that fits an individual world-view.</li><li>Hashtags, both in number, usage and even positioning within a post, gets frequently called out. Even though, we actively push new users to utilize them.</li><li>Pins are great for holding onto posts that mean something to you, but awful when they're used as a mile long corporate ToS that you must fine-read and agree to, before interacting with the person.</li>

Many of these can be summarized as "I don't like the way you expressed yourself" but instead of just saying that, it's framed as: "you are a bad person for not thinking and expressing yourself like me"

That's 27 months ago, and I was recently called for the one and only update I've received since then. "Yeah the waiting list hasn't moved at all since you applied". Meaning I still have 18 months left, 27 months later.

It's weird that we can have giant pride festivals with hundreds of thousands of attendee's here in The Netherlands, but mention that the average time to treatment has gone from ±6-12 months to 3-5 years and nobody's interested in listening.

Dutch law guarantee's specialized healthcare within 4 weeks, which is a joke in practise.

This is the downside of fixed budgets, you cannot, ever, react to the fluctuations in demand. You either have people wait unreasonably long, or you're wasting money, as you can't reasonably downsize or shift capacity either.
