I find it grimly amusing, too, that the US congress attempts to make a law restricting its president to only invading canada in the case of an "emergency," as if emergency powers have not been the modus operandi of this executive office since forever, as if the con man currently inhabiting that fascist office isn't perfectly aware of what he can say to play the country like a fucking fiddle.

According to wikipedia, the territorial dispute here that has never been settled leads to 4 different ambiguous zones. If oil were "discovered" in the sea floor here (even if this discovery later turned out to be completely fabricated or an outright lie), it could serve as a pretense for the US to occupy this area of only about 6,400 square kilometers.

There are also some rocks here, the "Nunez Rocks," which are "bare at half-tide," leading to a situation where "about half of each day, above-water territory that Canada regards as Canadian is surrounded by sea territory that the U.S. has declared to be American."

& if you think this land of republican liberty won't park a boat on top of those rocks for 12 hours a day just to antagonize a sister republic, guess again.

Here are a handful of other potential escalating points to watch out for:

1. The Northwest Angle, the only part of the US north of the 48th Parallel & considered part of Minnesota. The US is not above blowing any local events there out of proportion & most USians probably don't even know about the place. Fishing, timber, water rights, highway access, & sudden interests in Native populations or the governance of Minnesota, currently a liberal stronghold, could all come into play.

The US has a history of provoking other countries until it finds a pretext for war.

Remember "hand over Bin Laden"?

Afghanistan's government did not know where Bin Laden was. It was an unfulfillable demand.

Remember "weapons of mass destruction"?

Iraq's government did not have the weapons program that the US accused it of having "according to its intel" that it could never produce & was, years later, found fictitious. It could not dismantle a weapons program it did not have. It was an unfulfillable demand.

"Cease the flow of fentanyl & drug dealers into the US" is an unfulfillable demand. So would be "turn over this list of 100 US persons illegally held inside your borders" if the list is fictitious.

The US government has a proven track record of making shit up & invading on the most spurious pretexts.

You think a photo op with a warehouse full of US drugs will stop this? You think this madman will back down if he can be "pwned" as the gamers once said?

Trump *is* the madman the US sees in every other dictator in the world. He is the cowboy with the itchy trigger finger. He'll swear he saw your hand go for that gun. He will never admit to being "pwned."
