There is another reason why I stay away from drawing stark, easy battle lines. Humans like forming their us/them dichotomies. They like oversimplifying the world into easy "people like me" vs. "people not like me" groupings. It's very tempting to say "all of us in group X are as one, bound in common struggle." My mind automatically creates visual timelines in my head and places graphic representations of events along that timeline. It does that with my own life's timeline and it does it with historical events across centuries.

It's reflexive. I do this without thinking. It's kind of like it's "programmed" into me.
