I would only be worried about it if the project had a substantial “open source data&amp;#34; or &amp;#34;open source AI&amp;#34; component as their licenses are still in way more flux. Patent handling is also kind of a solved problem in modern licenses like Apache 2 and GPL 3, so I wouldn&amp;#39;t worry a ton there unless you expect the project to involve extreme cutting-edge tech where a contributor might not know about patents their employer is filing.

Copyright assignment only matters if you predict relicensing will be a factor in the future, since without that you have to track down every contributor and get their consent or deal with a project with a substantial amount of code under different licenses, both usually non-starters. 🧵

But we do have to realistic about it shrinking the potential future maintainers pool by a lot which is a downside to weigh against the benefits. And with paid contributors right now is kind of masks the downside in a way that many of us who have been on the receiving end of this cycle before find concerning.
