I had to abandon using C# when I was in high school because in my openGL based rendering engine, the GC FORCED about a 50ms pause every second. It would have been manageable if I could control how often the GC ran, but they offereed absolutely no way to do that in the client code. They said it was automatic, based on number of allocations and frees, but I could not control how often it ran even when, as far as I could tell, my frees and allocations should be almost zero.
