Didn't include this in the writeup, but just for the purpose of keeping score, this would likely not have happened if it was written in #Rust because mutability is part of the type system, so you don't end up accidentally mutating what should be an immutable object!

sorry, I don't think there's an "easy" fix to this. This has been going on for over a decade with rotating management and the board escaping accountability. All the things you suggested are reasonable in isolation but only address the symptoms and not the underlying causes. Staff need a union to do that.

ultimately I think it's important to fund independent journalists than worry about exactly what platform they're on. People regularly say "oh use X alternative platform" and I think they're dramatically underestimating how difficult it is for journalists to switch.
