Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of total collapse.

Dr. Fadil Naim @fnaim65 , Director of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, alongside Dr. Ali Alghaliz from Al-Shifa Hospital, warns that basic diagnostic and treatment tools are no longer functional. Critical devices like MRI are unavailable, making life-saving surgeries in severe trauma cases extremely risky and increasing the likelihood of death or permanent disability.

From 38 fully equipped hospitals before the war, only around 10 remain operational today, all with severely limited capacity and resources.

The crisis extends beyond emergency care. Patients with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are being deprived of essential treatment. More than 400 kidney failure patients have already died due to the disruption of dialysis services.

In this context, the Sumud Fleet is not just aid, it is a lifeline. By delivering urgently needed medical supplies and healthcare personnel, it offers a chance to restore some capacity and support overwhelmed medical teams on the ground.

B’Tselem @btselem : While many countries are abolishing or reducing the use of the death penalty, Israel is doing the opposite, writing it into law. Israel’s Death Penalty Law institutionalizes and legalizes the state’s mechanism for executing Palestinians.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 72,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and at least 1,050 Palestinians in the West Bank. During this time, more than 80 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons, which have turned into a network of torture camps where prisoners are subjected to continuous abuse and violence.

The death penalty law adds another official killing mechanism to existing practices.

The mass incarceration of Palestinians is a feature of Israel’s apartheid regime. As of March 2026, about 9,500 Palestinians are held in inhumane conditions in Israeli prisons, roughly half of them under administrative detention or as “unlawful combatants,” without trial and with no ability to defend themselves.

Death penalty for Palestinians only:

The law is worded to apply to Palestinians only, and it is set to make the killing of Palestinians a normalized, common punitive tool through several mechanisms:

The law gives military courts no discretion. Military judges will be required to sentence Palestinians convicted of murder to death, except in “special circumstances.” There is no requirement for a unanimous decision. A simple majority will suffice, and avenues for appeal will be extremely limited.

Only Palestinians are tried in military courts. Their conviction rate is 96%, based largely on “confessions” extracted under duress and torture during interrogations.

The penalty, execution by hanging, must be carried out within 90 days of sentencing, with no possibility of pardon. A designated prison officer will execute the sentence.

The law, which enjoys broad public support in Israel, is expected to pass in the Knesset tomorrow, Monday, 30 March. The Israel Prison Service has already begun preparing designated execution facilities.

The death penalty is a total violation of the most basic human rights, primarily, the right to life. Israel enforces a comprehensive policy of killing and oppression against the Palestinian people in all the territories it controls. The Death Penalty Law gives Israel’s apartheid regime yet another tool for advancing that policy.

On January 29, 2024, my daughter Hind Rajab was trapped inside a car, under direct fire.

Hind was a five-year-old child.

At that age, children don't think about politics, & don't know the meaning of war.

All they know is fear… & the hope that someone will come to save them.

Hind didn't die suddenly.

Hind waited.

She waited for help,

For her cries to have meaning.

She said:

"I'm scared…come get me."

This isn't a literary phrase.

This is the last thing a child said,

who knew she might not survive.

She said a sentence that tore my heart apart:

"Mom, they're lying. Stay with me!"

At that moment, I realized the betrayal.

An ambulance was sent to her. It didn't arrive. It was bombed.

This means one thing:

Saving a life wasn't allowed.

Today, 2 years later,

I'm not standing here to tell you a sad story.

I am here to speak about responsibility.

I will pose a weighty question:

What is the value of a human life when it is Palestinian?

Because what happened to my daughter Hind,

Had it happened anywhere else, would have shaken the world.

But it was in Gaza.

And that is why time was allowed to pass,

& the crime to be forgotten.

I ask you to imagine, even for a few seconds,

The magnitude of pain that mothers in Gaza carry when they lose their children.

Imagine the bitterness of the pain,

When you cannot save your child,

Or even reach them,

Or know what their final moments were like.

This pain lives with mothers

every day,

& with every breath.

What happened to Hind is not just a personal story.

It reveals how a child can be left to die, before the eyes of the world, without accountability.

You live in countries that believe in the rule of law,

that teach human rights,

& sign agreements to protect children.

But Hind was not protected.

Nor were the paramedics.

Nor was the truth protected.

I don't blame the people of the world,

but I do hold silence responsible.

The silence that makes the crime possible,

& makes its repetition easy.

Your presence here today

means that you have chosen not to be silent.

And that is important.

But what is more important, is what happens after this event.

Will Hind remain just a name at an event?

Or will she become a turning point?

I am not asking for the impossible.

I am asking for something very simple:

That the life of a Palestinian child be protected… as if it were your own child's life.

If the law cannot save a child, then it is a law that needs to be held accountable.

And if the world only acts when the victim resembles its own children, then the world needs a new conscience.

Hind is no longer here.

But her story is a trust.

And a trust is not preserved with words,

But with actions!
