Here is my feeble attempt to reconcile issue of predestination.

If you have children or plan to in the future, wouldn't you purpose in your heart, before they're born, that they would be conformed to an image. Most parents desire to raise their off spring to be good, moral, kind hearted, truthful. Yet in reality children will stray or outright rebel from the image parent has purposed for them from the beginning. And as parents we never abandoned our desire for the child to be in harmony with parents will towards good.

For me it seems God purposed in his hearts before foundation of the world for those whom he created to be conform to highest good...the image of Jesus Christ. God desired this long before the child comes of age to know or acts upon influence of good and/or evil.

Never once will God grow weary to bring, or call his children back, nor to forgive them, to justify them, to restore or glorify those who want to be in harmony with His will.

Fall rains have been unrelenting the pass few days. So decided to head north for my cold plunge at remote harbor I haven't visited since end of last winter.
With a brief break in the weather everyone was headed to the lake. Seemed a bit crowded, didn't want to deal with on lookers. Harbor north of town rarely ever gets crowded.
Air temp was 7.2°c, water was 6.9°c, spent 10 minutes in water. First frost is not far off, perhaps couple of weeks. Most people have a dread for fall season with constant fog and rain. I on the other hand look forward to the shifting of light and shadows.

Good week getting it done! Cold plunges in morning or during lunch while ending the day in the saunas is good way to improve my sleep.

Traveling this week, its gonna be a real challenge fitting in my workouts. Hotel will not have a gym, but there is a local recreation center think I'll take advantage of for acfew days.Dropping the rental car, prefer to get in more walking.

Raining in town this morning, creek was running too fast, so headed out to the lake for my daily cold plunge. To my surprise it was slightly overcast and not raining.

Pulled into the parking lot as several people headed off for morning walk around the lake. I headed for the boat ramp in my swim shorts.

Air and water temperature were the same 7.7°c. Spent 8 mins in the lake.

Had a visitor this morning, reddish brown lab dog swam over to me from the boat ramp. She was very excited to have someone to play with. Owner called her out of the water after he realized I was in the water.

Been a busy week at work and at play. If the weather improves perhaps I'll go for a run this afternoon. If not I'll hit the rowing machine to chase away the grey. #nostfit

Public works crew finished digging out the creek that was impacted by rocks and sediment over the summer from ice pack melt. Not longer need to go to the lake for my cold plunges.

The relentless rains recently indicates the fall season is upon us. Typical crowds to the park have been thinning out over the past several weeks. Two hardy souls this morning, myself and a homeless guy camped out overnight.

Watched the creek change it course and depth over past 16 months. I too have changed with it. Cold plunging has changed my own life course and surprisingly going deeper into prayer with God.

There's a reason why Christ spent time alone, removed from normal trappings of man's daily life. To be immerse in prayer with God, to experience freedom from troubles and fears that press in on our thought life.

To purposefully withdraw from others and daily activities to choose solitude and silence, even for just a little while, changes the course and depth of one's faith life.

City workers are still working on digging out the creek where I do my routine morning cold plunges.

Headed out to another beach closer to glacial waters. Walked into 8.8°c ocean waters, hung out for about 8 mins. Spend this time in the water focused on prayer.
A friend texted last night that a childhood friend of his was going into hospice care. He shared that this person essential drank themselves to death.

It's a familiar story one that I've encountered while doing AA ministry in the prisons several years back. Even more familiar knowing my grandfather died the same way.

Drinking alcohol is a very hot topic among the Redeemed that has been argued and discussed for thousands of years. While some believe in complete abstinence, others think it's fine to enjoy a drink now and then.

This topic is increasingly discussed in secular sphere as well, usually along health impacts on individuals and society.

Seen the countless studies, the FUD, and lastly the memes about alcohol.

Whether its alcohol or some other addictive object we desire, if you look to friends, family, or society to accuse or excuse your actions then you will remain in bondage to addiction.

It would be hubris to pretend I have 'the answers', but I'll add my voice to the mix in hopes that my words will help someone in their journey. But its also a given that my words will rub up against others. The rub is none of us are really alone in that regards.

There are plenty of answers, but the choice to seek then follow any of them becomes even more problematic. With any addiction our choices begin from a place of bondage, in the shadows. Yet in that dark place we long for the freedom the light of day promises. Stumbling blocks are easily seen in the light.

One common denominator among those escaping addiction, as a starting place, had to do with 'forgiveness'. Forgiveness starts from place of accepting our weakness, and vulnerability, one we share with all of humanity.

Fortunately in that still quite place you begin to realize everyone is working out their salvation, their own personal immortality projects out on one another. Accepting that we ourselves have contributed to our own suffering and likewise to the suffering of others parts this darkness.

In that moment of parting there is a realization we are seeking redemption from one other. If everyone is broken then how is redemption even possible? Ironic the desire for rightness or wholeness begins from within, but ultimately must come from outside us. Even from outside the broken ever shifting redemptive nature of humanity.

Out of all the spiritual narrative's only one speaks to the reality of a lasting forgiveness and redemption. One granting us lasting freedom from our addictions...Gospel of Christ Jesus.

There in is the rub of the matter. A redemption and freedom not of our own making, outside of humanity, doesn't set well with us.

I'll end this here. After being set free, learn to remain free, by considering these words..

Been doing daily cold plunges for 14 months now. To celebrate this milestone decided to do my first open water cold swim.

Instead of a fresh water swim gravitated toward salt water experience. Went to local beach set my sights on a mooring buoy about 225 to 275 meters off shore.
Entered water during high tide at 15°c, no wetsuit just regular swim shorts, goggles, swim cap, and swim buoy in tow. Beautiful sunny day, perhaps last day of summer.

Was making really great time. All the pool preparations were paying off. Halfway out the water temp had a noticeable drop in temps to around 12°c. Its important to lift ones head, sighting to make sure your on track. Came to a stop at about 75 meters from mooring buoy, soon reslized I wasn't alone! A curious seal popped up in front of the buoy.

Having spent years on these waters fishing knew enough it was time to turn around head back to the beach. Didn't have time to focus on cross species encounter. Mental energy needed to stay on task in cold water was more important.

Despite having to shorten my open water swim, it was a wonderful way to celebrate my new lifestyle of cold water plunges. Got one more thing to check off my list for the year...cold water plunge in glacier lake.

Went for my daily cold plunge at the creek this afternoon. Looks like public works department will be digging out local swimming hole over next week or so.

The spring rains and snow melt has filled in the creek with sediment and rocks accumulating over the long summer.

So I headed off to one of our beaches to do my cold plunge, 5 mins at 5.5°c. The scenery didn't disappoint.

Afterwards, while drying off, sat for awhile wondering about the life granted to me. Its so easy to let heart and mind wander to let the self ruminate about missed opportunities or worries about tomorrow.

its been quite a while since I've been active on #Nostr. needed a wilderness moment away from social media. spent more time in prayer with God, time with family and friends...opted for IRL during that time.

so much has happened during that time away. lots of travel back east and up north.

loss a coworker to cancer, he went quick, within three months of diagnosis. another coworker fighting the same.

so far, my best buddy been thorough cancer surgery and radiation treatment. possible chemo on his horizons, he'll know more in a few weeks.

friend at the gym told me his uncle passed away last night. he was pretty upset, thus he's hitting the weights to deal with it all.

yes, they're all VAX.

all still in denial about thr vax as root cause of their cancers and illness. never know what to say to them, so I just listen.

our town was hit once again by glacial lake outburst flooding about 300 homes. sad to see, wide spread impact.

if there is any saving grace in moments like this after the flood waters receded its seeing neighbor's helping neighbor.

Was going to purchase cold plunge unit but I'm bless to be surrounded by ocean, lakes, rivers, and creeks. Take advantage of these throughout year with average annual water temp at 6°c, sometimes up to 8°c, but rare.

If decide to get a cold plunges unit for the house, more than likely it will be DIY. Which can be done for under $2k at top end.

even though the creek is flowing ice was beginning to form along the shore. temp gauge indicated water was 3.2°c, air temp was -12°c. set the watch timer for 3 minutes.

sinners prayer, relaxing into the session, turning face towards the sun. watch timer went off, reset for another 3 mins. took the knitted cap off, finished off session with dunking head for full immersion.

several dog walkers watching me dry off. damn my fingers are worse off tiday than yesterdays session, feet and legs still fine. forecasting -16 tomorrow, then heavy snow in the evening.

alarm went off at 3:30 am, time to earn some uber driver points. landlords needed a ride to the airport, their headed to some place sunny for a few weeks. really nice people, very much the sun chasers during the winter.

windy drive, 9 knots. the airport wasn't busy at this hour, dropped them off curbside at terminal. wished them well. turned on Japanese Zen flute music on my drive back home. too windy to do my morning cold plunge decided to move it to noon time.

cornered by a couple of coworkers at lunch on my way out to the creek. they asked how long I plan to stay in the creek. long enough for them to perk a pot of coffee. get these questions all the time. ;)

wind was brutal at 9 knots, dropping air temp from -6°c to -11°c, water temp 3°c, set immersion timer to 5 mins.

several lunch time dog walkers all bundled up stop to watch. after drying off I hurried my way back to my vehicle. usual questions from on lookers...was it cold? just in the wind and shade. :)

could bearly feel my fingers, quite painful, feet and legs were fine. suspect I'll need to get some neoprene gloves at some point.

wind forecast until noon tomorrow is 20-56 knots, air temps between -7°c to -22°c. may end up breaking ice at the creek tomorrow, on Friday for sure.

entered the creek at sunrise. as I was undressing top layers noticed it was strangely quiet in the park, not even the ravens showed up.

snow and icicles hung from the trees. walked into water with temp at 3°c, no wind with air temp at -5.1°c., settled into 6 min meditative immersion session.

air temp made it difficult to remain still. winters hardness has come over the town, lakes are frozen up, ground is like concrete, winter fog moving across the marshes. all the curtains pulled shut and smoke filling the air.

I keep glancing at my watch timer, somehow time gets slower. at 5 mins its getting uncomfortable, decided to go full 6 minutes. make my way to shore after alarm beeps, rush to dry off, shrivering pretty good. dropped my keys in the snow while opening vehicle door.

tomorrow's temps will get to -13°c, gonna have to plan on getting redressed creekside versus back at the vehicle. arctic temps are reported to go to -18°c by Friday.

walked into the creek before sunrise, water temp 4.8°c. it snowed overnight, air temps dropped below -2°c, with snow accumulation 1.5 cm.

cleared the snow off a few boulders to stage my clothing and towels. the light from the street lamps made for a magical moment as I lean against the rock.

slowly recited sinner's prayer until the body relaxed into 8 min session

there is a struggle between mind grasping, ruminating over uncertainties - what if's, while the body demanded a 'fight or flight' respond from the bitter cold.

the 'fight or flight' response is a bioloigcal protective necessity that must be tempered by the mind, to keep those responses measured; prevent us from over or under reacting.

so it is with a ruminating mind, it needs the body to dispell trappings of repetitive thinking, dwelling on negative causes and consequences, body demands safety and comfort.

our choices always moving us from discomfort to comfort, uncertainty to certainty, restlessness to peace. but as we know time has a way turning comfort into discomfort, certainty back to uncertainty, peace into restlessness.

in a way we live double-minded lives from birth to death. meaning and purpose, choices rooted either in the mind and/or the body.

obviously cold immersion strips away bodily comforts, yet in that discomfort we begin to wrestle with ruminative cycles. I've learned in those moments to chose meditative prayer to undo years of double-mindedness. [James 4:8]

an old friend called this morning to let me know how his cancer surgery recovery went. surgery went OK, post-op not so much.

not gonna lie, I was shocked to hear he passed a 68 cm long blood clot in his left leg. he'll be on clot busting drugs and blood thinners for next year or so. he sounded frightened, my heart just ached for him.

he and his wife trusted the vaccine social science. never will they admit vax choice was wrong one. they refused to listen to me back at the height of C19 pandemic. they often viewed my choices and action in life as bit extreme, over the top as they would say.

its never feels good to be right at expense and suffering of others.

since it was already late in the morning made my way to the creek versus one of the remote beaches. set the timer for 10 minutes, slid into the water, recited sinners prayer the whole time. prayed for my buddy while drying off.

air temp 0°c, water at 4°c

sunlight through the trees was warming on my back. suddenly a raven began to follow me, hopping along, as I made my way back to the vehicle. it never made a noise, just watched me, seemly this lifted my spirit.

Walked into the creek this morning before sunrise with my head lamp on. Leaned against the boulder, settled into for 9 minute immersion session. Spent the whole time in sinner's prayer until the watch timer went off.

decided to head out for a walk during lunch, but was stopped by a handful coworkers. apparently there's a rumor going around that some crazy guy was doing daily swims at the creek in their neighborhood park.

Me: he sounds like a wacko, may wanna call the cops on this guy.

Them: we heard it was you, is that true?

Me: I heard the same thing. You definitely wanna call the cops on him. ;)

we all had a good laugh!

spent next 15-20 mins answering their questions about my cold plunge practice. apparently the practice sounds a bit extreme to a few of them.

Now that holidays are over its back to the fiat mines. Continue to do early morning cold plunges past few days. It was raining pretty steady when I slid into the creek this morning. Rain drops were bouncing off the surface capturing lightbfromnmy head lamp.

air temp 0°c, water at 5°c.

Extending immersion time to 7-8 mins. as I plan on taking up winter swimming over next 6 months. Need build up acclimation to endure 30-40 mins swims.

Picture was taken from new years day drive to a remote cove. Looking forward to hitting a few more remote beach this weekend.

weather was gorgeous yesterday afternoon for an hour drive north of town. headed to a remote secluded cove with beach access through forested area. tide was on its way back up, no wind.

silence was a bit erie, could hear birds cry out across the cove while getting undressed. walked into the water...

air temp 0°c, water 5°c

sinners prayer, body relaxes, noticed a seal spying on me from 30 yards out. turn to watch the tree line along the beach, a few red squirrels darting about eating pine nuts.

after about 7 mins started to shiver, time to leave calming waters. while drying off flock marine birds took flight, then I heard distance whine of engines. hiked back through forest towards my parked vehicle. engine noise got louder.

two or three ATV's were doing circles at far end of the cove. while warming up in my car noticed that ATV flipped on its side rolled towards the water.

silence descended on the cove.

driver stubbled out of the rig, then pulled the passenger out.
passenger was pretty dazed collapsed on sand holding an arm. the driver walked around assessing the damage, wondering how to upright the ATV. they both started the long walk back to the parking area. by then the other ATVs showed up to assist.

time for the long drive back to town, the hot tea hit the spot. out of radio and cell range, quiet ride...silence finds a way.

the polar bear plunge event was well attended by a few hundred people; offical rough count 450 hearty souls.

the weather cooperated nicely today, no wind, calm water, low tide. energy of the crowd was awesome. at the 1 min announcement everyone made their way to waters edge. then suddenly horn blast the water exploded with mad dash and splashing. lots of yelling and yelping, for most people it was over in a few short mins.

I slowly entered water, wading out up to my shoulders. turning watching people exiting to the beach. swimmer next to me had a half wetsuit on. after 5 mins she and a few others exited to the beach. I was the only one remaining, plenty of folks were wondering how long I would hangout.

the EMS crew in their dry suits kept their eye me the whole time. at 8 minutes made my way to beach. they followed me back to my tarp and towels, asked me if I was OK? told them they were over dressed for the event. we all had a good laugh.

plenty of handshakes in between drying off and getting dressed. made several new friends today. great experince looking forward to next year.

new year, new waters, new friends. already planning tomorrows outing on a remote beach.

woke up late this morning. stepped into the shower was reluctant to turn on the cold water. finished with 15 mins at 16°c. dislike cold showers, cold immersions are much more satisfying.

spent the morning amongst redeemed brethren. edifying one another with singing and prayer, sharing in His grace.

spent most of the late afternoon shelling out meat from dungeness crab that I picked up on yesterdays outing. preparing for our traditional new years eve dinner. lump crab cakes served over polenta, with peas, bacon bits, green onion, side of coconut shrimp, topped with remoulade sauce.

tomorrow I join in on the town's annual new years day polar bear plunge. weather should be somewhat agreeable for the gathering. little bit apprehensive about attending the event as I've spent last 6 months in solitary practice of cold water immersions and prayer.

new year bringing new waters, living waters, for hopeful souls and perhaps new friendships too. all time and space in His hands.

look forward to weekends. affords opportunity to explore coastal shorelines for alternate immersion spots. I had the whole day to decide which spot to do my cold plunge.

weather was same as yesterday, foggy, rainy, and windy, thus needed to find a protective cove. with this much rain my usual cold plunge creek would be too overwhelmed to safely enter.

with end of the year just around the corner, my heart became too easily troubled by uncertainty next year holds. we seem to be hardwired in to catastrophizing; world immerse us an endless stream of fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

decided on a boat launch north of town that is rarely used during the winter. a few hearty souls were out braving the weather.

parking lot was ankle deep with mixture of snow and slush, undressing standing in ice water. used the kayak launch ramp to enter the water of the cove.

air temp 5°c, water 5.5°c, 6 mins

sinners prayer, body relaxing, ravens crying out, the silence of the cove. watched the waves hitting the floating dock, bouncing off the shore next to me. weigh of the fog surrounded the near by islands.

it never fails, these moments of silence in secluded places, in prayer calms the mind, refreshing the soul, remembering...

decided to reverse things up today, started with 40 min sauna session at local gym.

john, who is blind showed up at the gym with his guide dog Jonah. we spoke for a bit. john comes to lift weights, rowing, and treadmill about three times a week. quite an up beat guy, inspiration actually.

he was surprised at learning about my daily cold plunges. asked him to consider trying it out. he jokingly said there were some things he can't see himself doing, cold plunges is one them things. we both had a good laugh over his dark humor.

drove over to the park, headed off down to the creek. weather is crappy, snow and rain mix, lots of fog. walked into the creek, slid up next to a boulder, praying the sinners prayer until body relaxed.

air temp 1°c, water 5.5°c, 7 min immersion session.

water felt colder after doing 40 min sauna session earlier, was able to extend my immersion time. watched the rain drops bounce up off the surface of the water and my exhaled breath drift out across the creek mixing with the fog. tree's and surrounding mountains where lost to me hidden behind the winter fog.

in that moment I had a glimpse of what John's life must be like. to face the fog of winter everyday and yet not let it define his attitude. we could all use that that level of resilience. oh, and a Jonah to accompany us along the way.

woke up to heavy frost on our vehicles with air temp at -2.5°c, packed up, headed to the creek with water temp at 4°c. way too eager to get there.

had to be careful making my way down to the creek as the rocks were especially slippery. waded over to my usual spot, leaned against the boulder. quietly repeated a prayer until body relaxed.

ravens showed watching me cautiously, I could see them through my breath. 5 mins was enough, time exit.

the wind kicked up pretty good this morning...20 knots. air temps got up to 6.5°c by early afternoon, gusting winds to over 35 knots. sky turned dark purple couple hours before sunset. their calling for dump of snow over night.

went for a late morning cold plunge at local recreational beach cove. the wind was blowing pretty good on the other side of the cove creating 1.5 meter waves. on this side it was calm, very beautiful.

I wasn't alone as number of people were walking the same beach. seabirds were also hanging out. the water temp 6°c, air was 3°c, which is pretty mild this time of year.

the group left the beach at same time I entered the water. they stopped their vehicle at my shelter watching with surprise. I waved to them, they waved back, laughing they drove off.

started my prayer, body relaxed, the distant snow flurries made its way to the cove. turned my face skyward to feel snow landing on water. seabirds and gulls appear to relax coming closer. after 6 mins decided to head for the beach, dried off.

hung out for two minutes in my dry robe. warmed up doing jumping jacks, few push ups, running in place. ravens hopped on top of the shelter to watch me, they seem amused.

went back in water for additional 2 mins. finished with complete head immersion under the water. began to shiver, time to get out. got dressed, packed up wet clothes, headed to the car.

won't get too many opportunities to do late morning plunges. grateful for holiday schedule away from work. drove to local coffee shop, finished warming up over a cup of tea planning next outing.

completed a 5 min Christmas cold plunge today. storm system came down the canyon kicked in the wind chill factor to about -1-3°c.

very grateful for the full lenght dry robe my wife gifted to me this morning, wind chill was bit more bearable. much more grateful for significance the peace of Christ has made in my life.

it started to snow. did a meditative prayer for 3 mins to focus against the stinging cold. body relaxed soon after.

heard some splashing sounds just over my shoulder, it was a small grey bird bathing 10 feet away. recognized it, an American Dipper, which is common in these parts. we exchanged glances as we both sat in the creek this morning.

submerged my head in water one last, neighbors dog barks, timer goes off, we both leave the creek. what a rare magical moment to share the creek with another creature.

the after drop from this plunge lasted for about an hour, shivered the whole time.

pass couple of mornings have been quite cold...air temp at -1°c, water at 5°c. frozen snow and ice finally gave way later in afternoon to rain. it will freeze over again tonight.

had a few feathered locals, ravens, show up during my 6 min cold immersion session. they were watching & squawking at me, not in protest more like they were questioning.

ended up shivering for about 15 mins straight once the after-drop kicked in later. it continued on and off for most of the morning at work.

bought a new digital temperature gauge, my previous one stopped functioning. slid into the creek an hour after sunrise.

air temp 2°c, water 4°c, 5 min plunge session.

snowed another 10 cm overnight. headed out to the lake, which was frozen over to test the new digital gauge. broke through the ice to drop the sensor into the water it readout as 0°c. drove down to the habor, it tested at 5°c.

temperatures are expected to drop along with additional snow heading into next week. hardness of winter is setting in now.

snow storm swept through last night. had plans to get to the lake early to do my cold plunge, yet encountered someone in the ditch next to my mailbox.

they were ok, no one hurt, just shook up a bit. we called tow truck company, but the trucks were quite busy pulling others out of ditches along the roadways in town.

an hour later the tow truck showed up. of course by then we become new friends as we downed a few cups of coffee. it took 2 tow trucks to drag the truck up onto the road. we promised to meet up later for coffee again either this weekend or next.

since I was short on time decided to give the creek a try versus long drive to the lake. it was up slightly but wuite doabke. slid into my favorite spot settled against the blouder. tree's along the creek had a heavy dusting of snow.

air temp 1°c, water 0°c, 4 min session.

patches of blue sky showed up today, sure things will freeze up over night.

ended up doing a 13 min cold shower this morning versus going to the creek. it was raining pretty steady this morning. creek would be roaring, thought perhaps by this afternoon or evening the weather would break.

was hoping to a least get a cold plunge at the lake, instead the weather went from bad to worst.
so end the day with a 35 min sauna session.

planning to head to the lake in the morning. it looks like arctic weather will be moving for the weekend from the north.

showed up at creek 40 mins before sunrise. wind storm blew threw early this morning at about 3 am, several down tree's.

the water level was up a bit. instead of going to the lake, decided to shift my cold plunge up stream to a deep hole that had minimal current.

air temp 3.3°c, water around 1.6°c, 5 min session.

after drying off, noticed the twilights of morning outlining the nearby mountain tops. only thing I could hear was towel brushing across my skin.

made my way back to the vehicle, put on some dry clothes and socks. as I was leaving the entrance to the park the police pulled in. suspect a neighbor may have called them after seeing my head lamp reflecting off the pools through the trees.

I'll shift my cold plunge to dusk tomorrow evening. gonna be an interesting talk one of these mornings I'm sure.

it was raining most the night. left early this morning just in case the creek was over flowing. wanted to have time to shift my cold plunge to the lake if needed.

suspected that the rain would turn to snow in higher elevations thus creek wouldn't be too high. wasn't disappointed the hríðar lost out this morning.

however the wind was much worst that yesterday at 16-14 kph, which really kicked in the wind chill factor.

6 mins at that temp is quite good. I tried cycling hot and cold showers to work up to cold showers exclusively. then started working up to full cold immersion sessions. find cold showers to be less desirable now.

it took several months of showers twice a day to get to cold plunge practice.

holding at 5 min mark between 2° to 4.5°c for now. however, the hardness of winter is just around the corner. 10-15 cm expected for the weekend, with temps below -1.1°c. I may be back to showers ;)
