      In reply to &lt;a href=&#39;/nevent1qqsf5xkxnu353fpp39kew45vgzml67qsgufgrsajlyv3ql0wp0sq3ccpk3xrw&#39;&gt;nevent1q…3xrw&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br/&gt;_________________________&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;the various BSD are totally different projects, you will have various replies depending on which BSD people are basing their answers&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;It does not make much sense to compile anything yourself on OpenBSD, packages are provided and if you compile them from the ports tree, you have no benefits.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;This is quite the same situation in NetBSD with pkgsrc.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;FreeBSD ports tree allows to customize build options, a bit like Gentoo USE, so it may make sense in some situations to compile locally.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;I can&amp;#39;t speak for everyone, but I most of the time people will say they prefer BSD systems because of the following facts (rarely all at the same time):&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;- it&amp;#39;s developed as a whole, this gives users confidence about project governance&lt;br/&gt;- userland and configuration management rarely change over time, people usually point out that on the Linux side, people reinvent userland tooling regularly (this is particularly true in audio and network area)&lt;br/&gt;- people like to have something different&lt;br/&gt;- it is great for software diversity&lt;br/&gt;- it usually just works (or it does not work at all due to hardware compatibility :flan_laugh: )&lt;br/&gt;- the license allows to reuse or bundle the operating system in a proprietary project / device&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;hope this help :flan_thumbs:

Submit a fix by editing the code through GitHub webui&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;When I need to submit a really trivial change or typo, I do it directly on GitHub so I don&amp;#39;t even have to clone it locally in /tmp :D
