so far it looks like the heavier duty weather stripping i put on the front door as well as the foundation vent plugs are actually making a difference. i've noticed my heater isn't cutting on as frequently and the inside temp is staying steady throughout the day vs. dipping as soon as the sun goes down which is what it was doing before. it's still early in the year... in a few months when winter is full bore i'll really be able to determine if the changes are really effective or not.

when i first moved to portland in 2000 there was a large homeless population. the difference is they were mostly out of sight. it only became a problem for people when the tents started showing up on the sidewalks and the RV's started taking over neighborhoods. before that... it was easy to just ignore the problem. as they had been doing in portland since the 1920's... and earlier.

there's a reason the term skid row originated in the pacific northwest and spread... homelessness has been a thing here since the 1800's. the area around the burnside bridge has been called skid row for over 100 years. that there are unhoused folks in that area 100 years later is not an indictment on those individuals but on a system where homelessness has existed in the most prosperous country in the world... since its founding.

despite selling off a lot of my watch collection in the past few months. i still have many. this is one of my favorites. it was $16.78. and it's one of the most accurate watches i own and it has a moon phase complication. don't have much use for it. it's the kind of watch you wear to work on a friday when you know you are going out before you go home. i haven't had a need for such a timepiece in over a decade. i still wear it occasionally.
