Another thing you can do, is if the labels are stickers on the original product packaging, you can just pull them off and stick them to your new glass jars. Here's an example of green and red lentils I got from albert heijn. In the future, I'll probably buy giant bags of these, but for the purposes of the getting the nice labels and nutritional info, I bought the small bags for the small jars that sit on my ease to access cooking shelf.

The other thing I like to do is make sure that whatever I'm transferring to glass retains the label if possible and relevant, especially if the label is cute or has important instructions. I also try to keep the nutritional info and the barcode, so I can scan it if I'm dieting or want to know more about the product on the Open Food Facts app. Here's an example of some sushi rice where I took the label off and put it on the glass container.

One of the things I wanted to talk about was keeping silicone, rubber, and any other plastic from touching your food stuffs. You can of course use baking paper/parchment paper, but if you want to get fancy (and have to cut less/have less waste), you can use cupcake papers. If you can find the fancy tulip ones at a baking shop, pick those up and they work great as a wrapper around the part of the lid that will touch your food and inevitably absorb the smell of whatever is in the container. It'll also prevent your food from absorbing the smell of the plastic or rubber. Here's an example of the tulip cupcake wrappers and how I used them.

It's got all these scratches, which means each time that happened, that microplastic ended up in whatever we were blending 😫

This isn't fucking over. I'm still going. Today I wanna focus on the great wins we've gotten, but first I have to complain in English that bol.com is such shit. It's gotten worse and I'm canceling my account, because they keep sending me drop shipped inaccurate items! I ordered a pack of 6 glass and bamboo storage pots and instead got ONE plastic and bamboo storage pot that wasn't even the correct dimensions that I ordered! They charged me €11 for a single shitty piece of plastic?!

Instead, I went down to Action and bought these pretty glass jars. They both still have either rubber or silicon on them for the lid, but I use parchment paper or cupcake paper to protect the food from coming in contact with those, and that will have to do. The storage pots at Action are so fucking cheap and nice. We also found some nice stuff at zeeman for cheap, but I'll post those later 🙏

The photo on right is stuff that is yet to be removed from plastic. Stripping plastic out of the kitchen really is fucking Hell. I just don't want this shit around my food though. I'm getting kind of tired of people saying you can't disconnect from Amazon or Google. You can, it's just hard.

Amazon was actually pretty easy though. There's an ocean of other tech providers and online shops you can hit that aren't Amazon. In the past 5 years I've ordered one thing from Amazon: a replacement shelf for my landlord owned fridge door, because the one we had broke and the landlord wouldn't replace it. It was the only place you could order a replacement... and that's it. Everything else I've bought from brick and mortar shops directly around me, or online shops that are not amazon.

AWS managed services are more expensive than hosting your own.

Google? I have a "work" google account I use only for interview meetings that use Google. I don't use it for anything else, at all. I am about to purchase a fair phone, but I already don't use Google docs, photos, maps, etc. I have kept a personal gmail account for the past few years, but long since switched to proton as my primary email. I use an email alias so that when I'm ready to switch from proton, I don't have to update my email address everywhere. I'm almost ready to disconnect from my personal gmail account, after I move one last important state level thing, then I will completely destroy the account.

Did it take 5+ yrs? Yes! Was it a pain in the ass? Yes! Was I able to do it all in one go? No! That doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I hate people who just say there's no alternative, as if there is no alternative. Google is not the only provider of anything. Amazon is not the only provider of anything. Microsoft is not the only provider of anything. You just don't want to put in the work, because it's hard.

No one is saying you have to quit your job because they use outlook. They're saying that on your personal computer, you don't have to use outlook.

I hate people being like "boycotts don't work" when they fucking do. They make it seem like you just don't buy things. No, you don't buy things and you shout at the companies on social media to stop supporting apartheid. You don't buy things AND you put up flyers around your town providing alternatives for people. You don't buy things AND you spend the time to educate your friends and family on how to setup their FOSS tech. And if your family and friends are unwilling to learn? Then really stop and think about what that says of them when they know how that tech is used to literally murder children.

If boycotts didn't work, Apartheid South Africa would not have fallen. If boycotts didn't work, several major international conglomerates wouldn't have pulled out of Isreali settlements.

oooo, I really like that you can create lists and host them wherever you want too. I've been using GoToSocial for months and I had no idea this feature was a thing :3

I know it's been very slow and not inclusive enough, but seeing fedi slowly adopt new moderation features has been nice. I'm thankful for the marginalized people who have demanded these features for years. Without them, none of this stuff would exist. Good on GoToSocial for prioritizing this in beta too :blue_heart_sparkles:

It will also be interesting to see if it can work with [FASP](https://github.com/mastodon/fediverse_auxiliary_service_provider_specifications ), so that mastodon admins can also setup a service to relay them.

I think I'm going to completely defederate from babka dot social because they are a hotbed of zionism (especially the admin) and I don't want to see that. I regularly see accounts there equating all Palestinians with Hamas, being extremely Islamophobic, and trying to muddy the waters on the definition of zionism.

Why are braille displays allowed to be so fucking expensive? Why the fuck are you allowed to charge hundreds or THOUSANDS of dollars for a fucking accessibility tool?

I know it's normal to force disabled people to spend thousands on accommodating tools, devices, and general care, and I have always found it infuriating, but I've only recently learned how bad braille displays absolutely gouge blind people. This is a really nice device. Unlike most braille displays, it's multi-line, which is already extremely rare, but for most of the single line devices, you're still looking at 1k-4k+. This device is so expensive the price isn't even listed on the website. It says to contact them...

Whoever in government refused to subsidize these devices (not just this one, but even the simple braille devices) should fucking rot. All of these should be free to blind people, libraries, schools, and any other org or company that blind people work at or interact with.

If you a legal resident or citizen of the Netherlands and you have been on a wait list for trans healthcare at the VUmc for more 4 years, please call the reception desk at the genderdysphorie kliniek and ask them to help you figure out what went wrong.

They accidentally dropped a fuck ton of people from the waiting list after the 4 year mark (this was automated), and then called all those people by phone in 2024 asking if they wanted to remain on the wait list still. If you replied yes, then they placed you at the end of the wait list, making you wait an additional few years. This was a mistake! If you didn't get a call, you may have been dropped entirely, also a mistake!

My partner had this happen to them and it took me physically bringing them to *my* endo appointment to ask what happened to them to correct it. They told me to tell others to also call if they have been on the list longer than 4 years. The wait list for the initial psychologist appt is less than 5 years. If its been 6 years with no call, you need to call or go in person to talk with them.

I haven't seen anyone in the Nederland trans community talking about this, so please boost and feel free to repost in Dutch :blobhaj_trans_pride_heart: :boost_ok:

I don't refer to estrogen as a horrible thing. The same foes for blockers for both E and T.

HRT is personal and specific to an individual's needs. Taking more or less of a hormone does not affect your ability to be a good person.

Your environment and personal choices affect if you're a good person.

If you feel like you were a bad person before using E (or T blockers), maybe reflect on that. You can't blame your sex hormones for how you acted.

And to be clear, I wouldn't allow a trans masc person to blame their usage of T for being inconsiderate or rude either. I also wouldn't shame a transfem who can't, or didn't want to, use HRT for being "testosterone poisoned" as that's transmedicalist.

This shouldn't be a hot take, but please don't use choke or chain collars for your animals. In fact, don't use collars for fastening leashes at all. They choke your animal. I'm honestly not sure why they're legal at all.

Please instead use a harness. With a harness, you have better control of your animal because you are holding the center of their body and not their neck. You don't run the risk of bruising an animal's neck.

Harnesses can also have little pockets for things like poop bags and treats so you don't forget them. You can also clearly mark your animal as anxious or aggressive or in training much better on the side of a harness versus a collar.

Please don't use devices meant to choke animals when we have many better options available. If you see this and can't afford a harness, let me know, and I will purchase one for you.

*This isn't up for debate. Take it up with your vet if you disagree.*

I just want stuff that says I'm queer and trans in every language, because I like that concept. Btw, if you are looking for a fun queer/trans game that prominently features Black and South Asian women, I highly recommend [Thirsty Suitors](https://www.thirstysuitors.com/ ). It's a game about a woman who goes back to her small queer home town to face the trauma she's caused all her exes, with one ex in particular getting a very major arch. The game centers around cooking with quick time events, and skateboarding (and also fighting off arranged marriage suitors - it's a whole thing and it's fun). A weird blend of cooking games and tony hawk pro skater and card games, but featuring almost exclusively a BIPoC cast :) I absolutely adored it.

CW for: generational trauma, transphobia, queerphobia, 1st/2nd generation USAmerican PoC trauma, but it's a really nice and healing game if you're ready to receive that information. Seriously, if you're queer and BIPoC, I really recommend the game. It was made with love.

Feelings on Karlach in the Baldur's Gate 3 VideogameI'll block anyone who says that she has fantasy red skin and so she can't be white washed. Shit's featurism.

Karlach looked Black in early access, and that's so important. There's no other canonically Black fem origin characters in this game. This could have given more representation that was desperately needed for this genre.

I understand that a face similar to this is now a default Tav face to choose from, but the thing is, why can't we have both a visibly Black fem face for our Tav AND a Black fem origin character? The default origin characters are all white except for Wyll, and it's good we have Wyll, but what if you're a Black girl or Black woman or Black fem person and you want to see yourself as the main character? It sucks so much to not see yourself in your favorite genre of game.

Think about the cosplay opportunities too! I know Black people can still cosplay Karlach (and I want them to!), but there's still something to be said about getting to cosplay a visibly Black character as a Black person, a character meant for you.

There's not a lot of high budget 3D games out there that make game of the year that feature Black girls or Black women as main characters, and definitely not Black trans women. (there are some great indie games though!) This was a hugely missed opportunity in the mainstream though.

It's not lost on me that Karlach is also not in the loading screen art. I am upset.

Disclaimer: I'm not Black. I'm just upset at white game devs and artists. I know there's been some conversation on her actually being asian, and to that I say: Cool, why could she have not been mixed asian and Black though? Why not both? It's important to feature people that aren't just coded as.... white... And even if she was just meant to be of Asian origin, why was she then just made to look... white? I'm aware her voice actor is mixed race, and that's positive, but I stand by that it would have been wonderful to elevate dark skinned Black women/femme people. The only non-white femme origin characters are green and red with no Black features... come on...

I can help with explaining how the process of getting a highly skilled migrant visa works, what paper work you need, connect you with recruiters, and give you some tips on learning the language. I can direct you to the appropriate government resources and also explain some stuff you'll want in order before you leave.

**Note**: you *cannot* get an asylum visa, as NL still considers the US a safe country. You must get a different kind of visa such as a student visa or highly skilled migrant visa. If you get a highly skilled migrant visa, you can get a visa for your partner and children as well.

**Warning to trans ppl**: The state of trans healthcare isn't very good here, but if you want HRT, there are still ways to get it faster via the UK or Belgium. I can also direct you to a good doctor and decent trans healthcare centers here, but the wait lists are terrible (years).

**Warning to BIPOC**: This country still has issues with Blackface (see: zwart piet). This country still has colonies (it's literally a kingdom). There is still much work to be done on racism here. But compared to the USA? It's about the same honestly. It's still racist, but in different ways than you're used to, if that makes sense.

**Warning to people who are covid cautious**: Basically no one here respects covid, but if you are high risk, you can register that with your doctor and then your work place cannot give you shit for masking. You'll also be on a special list for extra flu/covid boosters.
