2 tourists died this week in Iceland. One was a little girl. It has been so shocking to see how many tourists die regularly. On my volcano hikes, tons of people brought their very young kids & I witnessed one kid get hurt & need an ambulance. Iceland is not a destination to bring your young kids on extreme adventures. It is dangerous in unexpected ways & I never leave on a nature excursion without emergency supplies. It’s sad to see Iceland getting the blame, it’s the parents to blame

it’s simply not an issue in Iceland whatsoever. Every tech company here I’ve spoken to doesn’t have in-house AI development. If there is any work in AI at all, it is low-paid outsourced remote jobs in India (and that work is not going to cause mass unemployment). Multiple Icelandic companies have shockingly directly told me that.

huge betrayal. Most of my education is in physics, but I did my master’s in algorithm development and built some NNs. That is NOT physics. It’s just so, so sad that they stooped this low. AI is a bullshit machine. & giving a nobel in physics to a guy that never got any education in physics whatsoever is insanely disrespectful to anyone who is an actual physicist. Wtaf. It’s a meaningless token now.

I’m starting to view academia as sheer stupidity. I’ve done 6 major moves for my academic career. One for undergrad, masters, PhD, postdoc, an internship, a research role. This has caused me severe stress, hardship, & lack of normalcy. My research involves a patent & a professor literally won’t allow it bc he wants publications of it. My research has been in public interest reports & I can’t get remote funding or a remote role. Academia is f-ing stupid & we need to make all of it remote asap

I tried an Icelandic dating app & I noticed a lot of guys answered “What’s a turn-on?” with “A positive, up-beat, bubbly attitude” (or something similar). It got me thinking - while I’ve met a lot of women who are positive most of the time - when have I met a man with a “positive, up-beat personality”- I guess never irl. What does that mean? Lol. Are women supposed to be constant-cheerleaders for men and women get none of the cheerleading in return? Um, wtf?
