It is my humble opinion (not financial advice) that the next financial crash will be spurred by crypto, particularly so-called “stablecoins”
Letting banks issue paper money that was supposed to represent a physical amount of stored gold led to banks issuing more paper than they had gold. Long story short, this mess led to the eventual establishment of modern day FIAT.
Now we are going to have financial institutions issue digital tokens that are supposed to represent a real stored amount of USD. You expect me to believe they won’t issue more tokens than they have USD?
Entrusting financial institutions who know the taxpayers will bail out any fraudulent activity is not a good plan.

Sometimes I wonder if the major exchanges issue more “bitcoin” to retail than they actually hold under the assumption that most people won’t take it off the exchange.

It seems like isolationism will be making a return, but that is only in the short-term. Tariffs will be proven to be a disastrous policy in the modern era. Just a mere few months ago, I was talking to some people about how Peter Zeihan does a good job explaining what a post-American multipolar world would look like, but I couldn’t fathom that the Americans would willingly dismantle the post WW2 trade order they established that kept them so dominant. I knew American power was declining, but I didn’t expect the American government to accelerate their own decline.
Now that Trumps in office and doing exactly what Zeihan described, turning more isolationist and waging trade wars on allie, I think it is inevitable that we see an end to the American dominated free trade order by the end of the century.

Having average people think they’re geniuses because they’re parroting what an LLM told them isn’t a good thing. Especially considering the fact that the average person isn’t really aware of the biases AI has.
I’ve already seen so many people post screenshots of what ChatGPT said to back their claim in an argument as if AI is some sort of objective neutral source.
You think it’s hard trying to get people to understand mainstream news will twist the facts according to their biases? Imagine how hard it will be to convince people the biases/agendas AI has.

There are many benefits associated with AI. But to ignore the negative aspects and potential outcomes it makes bring is naive and dangerous. Optimism about the Internet bringing about a more connected world made many people blind to its potential applications to bring about a surveillance state. By the time people started speaking about how governments are infringing on the privacy of their citizens, it was already too late.

When societies have a surplus of a good that is high in demand, they rarely reorganize to ensure everyone gets what they need.
Consider food production. The globe already has a surplus food production. We currently feed enough to feed 10 billion people with a global population of 8 billion. There is a food surplus, yet millions of people starve each year.

Governments around the world are making attempts to put borders on the Internet, and America is the latest to implement such policies.
Banning social media sites encourages the average social media user to actively look for alternatives, look into softwares on how to by-pass bans, and become more aware/concerned about government overreach.
These social media bans will not only fail long-term, it might actually spark a revival of decentralizing the Internet and a return to an Internet resembling the early Internet.

Trump accelerates the decline of US hegemony.
The strength of America post WW2 comes from its network of allies. Through that network, the US enjoys the benefits of a global empire while minimizing the cons of actually running one.
Trumps obsession with tariffs and trade wars attacks the core of what the American post-WW2 order which is easy access to trade.
I’ve often called BRICS a failed project, but the Trump presidency offers a unique opportunity to start the foundations of a new global trade network that isn’t dependent on the United States.
Will that be through BRICS though? Probably not. But time will tell.

Skipping the industrialization phase and going straight to digital power would work for states with smaller populations but the ones with larger populations still need to properly industrialize in addition to developing the digital economy.
You can’t have an extraction based economy and import everything and then wonder why no one takes you seriously on the international stage.
They are not mutually exclusive though, the larger countries can tech-max and open up the factories.
