I know with Polymaths.social, we had a lot of bugs early on that no one else had noticed purely because we were the first to really do the multi-user thing on GoToSocial; the local timeline was broken, for example, something noone would have noticed on a single-user instance.

So while there’s nothing technically standing in the way of having an account with tens of thousands of followers and GoToSocial will host them much more performantly than Mastodon (and, worth noting, I expect the actual performance bottleneck is number of instances your followers are on, and most of yours would be on one instance, Fosstodon), expect to run into bugs that no one else has.

Also worth noting that any migration, even Mastodon to Mastodon is gonna leave some followers behind. Most of those will be from dead accounts, so it probably won’t affect the actual amount of interaction you get, but don’t be surprised if your count goes down by a good chunk.
