Apennine Colossus (Colosso dell'Appennino), a large stone statue located in estate of Villa Demidoff in Vaglia, Tuscany, Italy.

This colossal figure, 11m high, was created by Flemish sculptor Giambologna in late 1580s. It is a personification of Apennine Mountains, which are a major mountain range in Italy.

The statue was originally built on grounds of Villa di Pratolino, a Renaissance villa, and later became part of Villa Demidoff estate.

#archaeohistories

The first known "camper" made by a Scottish man was a horse-drawn touring caravan, the Wanderer, commissioned by Dr. Gordon Stables in 1884. This pioneering vehicle was conceived as a "home on wheels," though it faced challenges with its horses and navigation. The idea was later developed into the first practical caravan, the Eccles Motor Caravan, produced in 1919, and the concept of a camper, or motorhome, evolved over time, with the term "campervan" becoming popular later.

#archaeohistories

In 1980s, archaeologists uncovered a remarkable Neolithic wooden road near Nieuw-Dordrecht in the Netherlands. This ancient peat road, dating back 4573 years, stretches for 800m. Through meticulous science of dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating, experts have pinpointed its construction to 2549 BC.

This discovery not only highlights advanced engineering skills of Neolithic communities but also offers invaluable insights into their transportation and trade practices.

#archaeohistories

"It took me years to realize that Inca and pre-Columbian architecture is directly related to the structure of the corn kernels. In a western model of thought, one might judge the shapes as irregular, but in a universal thought, everything is a correlation between the cosmos, science, art and humanity." (Fractal Nature)

As you can see, organic growth forms are represented in a logarithmic way and fact that these pentagonal, hexagonal and heptagonal blocks coincide with corn forms.

- Juan Casco

The Laconian crater with the Panhellenic Sun✴️ located at the Louvre Museum, is a stunning 6th Century BC crater featuring the Vergina Sun with 16 rays, predating Macedonia’s rise in the Greek world.

In this ancient pottery from Sparta, the sun’s rays are not just decorative but the focal point, serving as compelling evidence of the Panhellenic significance of this symbol. Ancient Egyptian pin tumbler lock is one of earliest forms of locking technology, and its basic design is still used today. This lock used a wooden bolt that slid into a latch to secure a door. It feature was wooden pins of different lengths that blocked bolt from moving unless correct key was used.

The key was a wooden tool with pegs that matched the pins in lock. When inserted, pegs lifted pins to the right height, aligning them with crucial line that allowed bolt to slide and unlock door.
